Domain de Fontenille: An Idyllic Chateau Hotel In Provence

There is elegance and then there is French elegance furthermore if it comes in the form of a Chateau completely restored respecting its history and functioning as a hotel.  Domain de Fontenille is located in the Luberon region of Provence, France and it appears as time has not passed it by since it retains a luxury that is discreet and classic while offering modern amenities and excellent food.  My family and I had the joy of staying at Domain de Fontenille for a weekend last year during our two week pilgrimage of
excellent cuisine and wine tasting in The South of France.  The hotel is conveniently located only 30 minutes’ drive from Aix-en-Provence.  The Domain has only 17 rooms which makes it even more enjoyable and more of a personal experience in lieu of more crowded and busy hotels.  The beautiful property is situated amid Provencal hills on an idyllic park setting with green lawns, gravel pathways dotted with terracotta planted topiaries, flower gardens, century old trees and cypress pine.

“An imaginary, dreamlike journey where eras mingle and time
stops. A noble, reinvented house dating from the 18th century, protected by
centenary cedars, surrounded by springs and woods.  Mirrors reflect back childhood memories and the sweetness of Provence…”

You know that excellence and beauty is going to be the result when the owners of
Domain de Fontenille are a former fashion CEO and a Paris and Brussels gallery owner.  As a consequence the decor is perfectly in-sync with the 18th century chateau with modern art in every room and public spaces from La Galerie Particulière, Paris-Brussels.   Alexandre Lafourcade, an expert in restoring historic properties with an office in Saint-Remy, was in charge of the restoration and decor of the hotel.  Our room was conveniently located overlooking the park and the breakfast area where every morning there is a different menu reinvented by the chef, served and brought to you on a platter.  Fruit and rose salad, Vanilla cream, French toasts, … We had the pleasure of dining at the hotel Le Champ de Lunes gourmet restaurant which was recently awarded with 1 Michelin Star and its modern food with local ingredients for sure awakened all our senses The Hotel provides excellent amenities throughout the year from wine tasting courses in the modern cellar, exhibitions, open-air cinema, concerts and special events for Christmas season.  The first night of our stay we enjoyed a Latin Music night where old school Cuban music was played live while children were playing around the garden and adults naturally sat on the garden lawn enjoying the concert.
