March Events: All Design And Art Related Events

March is when Women’s History Month is celebrated and hundreds of museums and National Museum of Women in the Arts are joining the third annual #5WomenArtist campaign. “Can you Name five women artists?” The campaign is designed to spark conversation about gender parity in the arts. Yes this issue is everywhere you guys. This year’s campaign focuses on women artist of color. Which gives me an excellent excuse to post the portrait of Michelle Obama painted by Amy Sherald. If you are asking yourself why Michelle Obama’s portrait is in sort of a gray scale, there is a very interesting and historical explanation. Interesting how art is so meaningful and deep and it can be so expressive once studied and explained. Sherald’s technique is analyzed in detail here.

The days are getting 2 minutes longer everyday. I can notice it every late afternoon and that makes me so happy and excited. Soon we’ll be ditching the heavy coats and boots and embracing lighter clothes… Just the thought of it is inspiring. Fall 2018 fashion shows kick of in New York on February 8th until the 14th. I can’t wait to see what Fashion Designers will present and what the fashionistas wear on the streets. To see the schedule go here. The entire month of February is the month when Fashion Designers present their Fall/Winter Collection in different cities around the world. The fashion marathon goes in this order New York from Feb 8-14, London Fashion Week Feb 16-20, Milan FW Feb 21-27 and Paris FEb 27 to March 6. I wonder how fashion editors and buyers survive…

Michelangelo Divine Draftsman & Designer at The Met From Nov. 13 through Feb. 12

A celebrated artist for over half a millennium, Michelangelo is having his largest exhibit at The Met in New York City. The exhibition will showcase 150 drawings, three marble sculptures and other works, including Met’s own collection of two rarely displayed drawings and one sculpture. Among the works presented, is a monumental cartoon for his last fresco in the Vatican Palace. There will also be work of other artist for comparison and context. A must see exhibition for sure.

The Musse Yves Saint Laurent Paris will open in an elegant 19th Century mansion in the city of light on October 3. The Musse Yves Saint Laurent Marrakesh will follow soon this month… The planning, design and execution of both museums took more than a decade. The museum in Paris will exhibit Mr. Saint Laurent’s couture, including iconic pieces as the 1965 Mondrian dress and many other legendary pieces. The fabulous Interior Designer Jacques Grange partnered the renowned exhibition-set designer Nathalie Crinière to refresh the decor of the galleries. Jacques Grange had decorated the couture house in the 1980s.
