Being one with nature has a way of inducing some sense of calmness and peace in people. With the effects of the recent pandemic still fresh, many people are still skeptical about going outside. However, there is a need to bring a little nature into the house. When people hear about bringing nature indoors, they quickly think about adding potted plants to their windows and living room. This may not be the case; there are several ideas on filling your home with natural elements. Most of these ideas vary from one residence to another. Here are a few ideas you may want to consider to bring nature indoor.

Use furniture to bring nature indoor

There are several options to pick from when it comes to choosing furniture that brings in a little bit of nature into your home. Most people are known for designing furniture from natural materials such as rattan, seagrass, wood, wicker, and slate. When designing your dining rooms seats, or a family lounge, you may want to consider natural materials such as bamboo and rattan. These materials add some texture and tactility to the warm ambiance of your home. The best part of it all is that materials such as rattan and wicker are versatile and can be used to design varied furniture options. However, you may want to restrict them to indoor use only. This is because exposure to outdoor elements speeds up wear and tear. On the other hand, furniture made from synthetic wicker tends to last longer and can be used as outdoor furniture.

I’ve been somewhat absent from this blog while being pretty busy working on our garden, soon I’ll share with you the before and after and some of the process. I’ve been also reflecting a lot on the current social situation of our country which was a long time coming. I am more than perplexed at the resurfacing reality of our racist system and how there are still organizations that all they can come up with is with the uncompromising phrase “We are listening” and “we are open”. As if they don’t know anything about this country’s history and as if they are in charge of deciding whether or not things should change. Many other so-called “influencers” haven’t even dared to use the phrase “BLACK LIVES MATTER” as if that was a request or even a debate.

I understand that the system as it has been designed had so far worked very well for a few selected individuals and they may not find any systemic change self-serving. But the reality is that when we lift each other we all win. We all deserve to live in peace and surrounded by beauty and we all deserve to be equally treated and have equal opportunities. Too many families are suffering from watching their loved ones being killed in the streets or being put in prison for minor offenses and not being able to do anything because there is nothing they can do. The system is designed to keep certain demographics out of society so they won’t vote. Too many families destroyed and left in poverty as a consequence of a lack of opportunities or being subject to rejections.

There is no time to think, to listen, or to be open. It’s time to start practicing that beautiful practice of equality and put our words into action. I’ve been always tried to make this blog an inclusive one and have always encouraged conscious buying. There is no better time than doing just that now. By supporting these organizations you are helping a common cause:

I have posted bits and pieces of Janet de Botton’s house in Provence before, but I think it’s time to post the entire home. The estate located in Les Baux with great views over Les Baux’s barren was published in Vogue a few years back. Janet de Botton and her late husband Gilbert enlisted French decorator and landscape designer Jean-Louis Raynaud and his American partner Kenyon Kramer to create an elegant and sophisticated home with amazing gardens.

The home style is an exercise in restraint and elegance. Although every room is perfect as they are, today I would however update certain areas to make it more relevant. The magnificent gardens on the other hand, I would not alter. The expansive gardens are comprised of an elaborate late-17th-century-style box maze, an allée of more than three-hundred plane trees, an 18th-century Romanesque temple, a grove of ancient Spanish olive trees, a lake framed by apple trees and Japanese maples, a potager and, of course, fields of brilliant lavender.
