Mother’s Day is this coming Sunday and I can’t wait to decorate our table for our traditional brunch. Even amidst the unimaginable situation, we are living in, there is the silver lining that families are together, enjoying each other more than ever before, spending time together perhaps without too much digital interruption. It’s self-assuring to know that in these moments of fear and anxiety, we have closeby the people we trust the most.

I can’t think of a more fitting time than now to start this new series: Designing A, and what is more appealing than starting with a pool house…? As some States are slowly opening up for business, I would think or hope that many people are still maintaining their social distancing outside of their workplace and not going out to public places for a while. In such a case, a pool house beautifully and comfortably designed to escape to would be a real treat.

Like every other part of a house, when it comes to designing it, the process should start like this, addressing the homeowner’s needs aka function, Architecture aka adaptation and sense of belonging, and lifestyle aka style. I swear to you that our neighbors across from us are the chicest neighbors I could ever ask for. This couple is in their 70’s, besides having a landscape company which maintains their grounds, they attend their beautiful garden regularly by themselves. The thing I truly enjoy the most about it is the fact that she wears a red swimsuit and a straw hat while cutting roses and trimming boxes. I can’t stop watching them. Yes, they probably think I’m a freak.

They sold their nearly 9,000-square-foot Spanish Colonial home and purchased a townhouse in the West Village. According to the designer couple, the reason for this sudden change was Jeremiah’s longing for the urbanism of the City where the couple met. Their townhouse is featured in the current issue of AD. You can read more about it here.

If you are into fashion then you already know by now that Clare Waight Keller has left her role as Artistic Director of Givenchy. While it’s unknown the reason for her departure, some hint at the insufficiency of sales growth. There is no doubt that this world upending pandemic has come to change the way we live and possibly the way many people work. Conde Nast has recently announced pay cuts and potential job eliminations as the economy continues to slow down.

I didn’t think I was going to be so enchanted by beautiful gardens. I have always been a lover of nature and always have the belief that there is nothing more beautiful than nature. Of course, there is outstanding man-made architecture, but as beautiful as they can be, they would look rather dilapidated without the proper landscaping. It is my hope that all these beautiful images can provide you with much-needed inspiration as well as a confirmation that life is beautiful and soon we’ll be back to our normal life.
