You grow up the first day you have your first good laugh–at yourself.  last night’s fortune cookie, really!

Taking a break from the Christmas decor, I wanted to post today about these chic small spaces and how much easier it is to make small compact spaces comfortable and chic, compared to big open spaces. Contrary to popular belief, over sized furniture in small spaces make them look bigger as long as you opt for rounded edges.  Covering the walls in fabric or natural texture wallpaper like sea grass or grass cloth makes the room feel swaddled.  Big art work or mirrors bring excitement and reflection to small spaces.  Sconces, sconces sconces, I love sconces small, big, shiny or matte, they bring functionality but also interest and add an extra layer of fun.

The banquette enclosed between these two columns gives a cacoonish feeling to this space.  I love how they kept the furniture low.

Again in this room, the walls are covered in seagrass wallpaper.  The desk that is kept light and skinny and the Bibendum chairs by Eileen Gray keep the space open.

The Guest room designed by Thomas O’Brien for Hearts Designer Visions this year was a very suitable small space with great scaled furniture.  Thin but tall canopy bed bring your eyes up letting you appreciate the beautiful fabric on the walls.

I think it is just appropriate for this “kitchen of the week” post to be about kitchens decorated for Christmas.  The first three images belong to Jill Sharp Brinson’s home, Ballard Design’s creative director.   It was featured in the November issue of Atlanta Homes and Lifestyle.  The house was styled with the help of Suzanne Kasler and the result was quite amazing.   Do you see why I declared that my next kitchen needs to have a row of windows above the counter top?… Above is why. This is probably the only kitchen with brushes, sponges and cleaning artifacts displayed that look this good. Do they sell that stuff at Ballard?

I know this is a dining room but it could make a pretty amazing kitchen.
What spectacular windows, no?
I know this big Christmas tree in this kitchen may be a bit over board but it’s also beautiful.

Many people, like myself, prefer to set small buffets around the house for guests to help themselves.  This would be a lovely serving station.

Two undecorated wreath hanging from the windows is just too pretty.
Any simple detail, such as hanging garlands and ornaments off your kitchen window could bring the spirit of Christmas in.

If you haven’t sent out your Holiday cards yet, you are not the only one.  I usually send them out by now but this year it’s been a bit crazier and here I am kind of rushing.  I usually send out personalized cards, especially to my clients and even though family cards are very cute and once you have a family you feel tempted, I do not send out cards with family pictures on them because not everybody has children.  And for some reason I don’t understand, not everybody loves to see other people’s children on cards.  For those who don’t personalize cards these cards at Crane are beyond chic.  Enjoy!

White Christmas decoration can be soothing and magical but colorful, unique and fun Christmas decor are more appealing to me.  I found these unique ideas at French Elle magazine and loved them.  I’ve never seen anything like this done again, especially the umbrella used as a tree with hanging ornaments.  I think it would be very appropriate for homes with kids.  Something that would also be very fun is to decorate a tent with ribbon garlands with ornaments hanging down all over the tent.  The top image is more on the kids side as well.  Love love love the lighting cascading down the wall.  The trees seem to be made out of bags?  Enjoy!
