Color Theory: Yellow Painted Rooms for A Spark of Happiness

It is said that the color yellow awakens our memory, encourages creativity, promotes communication and fuels our nervous system.  All these positive and optimistic reactions are a result of the happiness the color yellow is known to spark.  It’s an easy color to combine with other hues, and it adds a spark of light in the process.  Although it is a color that enhances the mood, yellow can also provoke different feelings and emotions.

A soothing tone of yellow can bring in lots of light to a windowless room.  A mustard shade will look great on library walls making it feel cozy.  A bright and strong tone of yellow is suitable for fewer traffic spaces like powder rooms and hallways.  Whichever yellow tone you prefer, it will come with the benefit of a dose of happiness.

If you want to design a room with a striking color combination, yellow is an easy color to pair with other hues.  Combine it with blue for a more nature-inspired environment.  For a unique color scheme, pair it with browns, and if you are all for drama, purple is a good counterpart.  For a more old-world elegant interior, choose muted gold tones which you can combine with grays and green hues.

Many people may find choosing a color overwhelming, especially when considering the power of color and the effect it creates in us.  Colors create moods that affect us mentally and emotionally. However, we can pick the right shades if we consider a few steps.

It’s helpful to remember that each tone of yellow can incite different emotions.  Do you want excitement, high energy rooms? Then go for the brightest tone on the card.  To create a peaceful more harmonious setting pick a lighter tone.  If the room is used in the day, make sure you try that wall paint sample during the day, likewise for evening rooms.
