I’m thrilled to reveal photos of my room ” The Guest Bedroom Suite” for this year’s Designer Showcase which takes place at the Columbus Museum of Art. I was one of a handful of Columbus based Interior Designers asked to participate in this year’s Showcase. I’m very happy about how the room turned out. Since it’s a guest bedroom, my priority was to create a space that was welcoming, inviting, and cozy while still sophisticated and uplifting.
As I have stated here in Belle Vivir blog for years, I’m a firm believer that living beautiful goes beyond the visual. It’s a lifestyle where all the senses are at play. Consciously or not, we are uniformly influenced by our surroundings, from our choices in food, fashion, and home decor, the things we surround ourselves with influence our moods and emotions daily. On that line, this room was designed with that in mind. It is furnished with furniture that is not only comfortable but also timeless. The overall look of the space is timeless.
I wanted the room to feel as it’s been there for a while. So I decided to make it look as if the owner has collected the items throughout her travels. The rug is Art deco inspired by The Rug Company, the fabric on the canopy behind the bed is from Schumacher, and so is the small leopard fabric on the Louis XVI style chairs. The big mirror on the wall is a 1940’s from Italy, and the three plaster sculptural convex mirrors around the room are hand-made by a Parisian artist. I saw these mirrors while visiting a flea market in Paris a couple of years ago and fell in love with them.
All the lighting in the room is from Circa Lighting. Bedding is from Matouk and the silk embroidery pillows I purchased them at the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul on my previous trip earlier this year.
I also purchased the ikat pillow at the Grand Bazaar. The small leopard fabric is ideal because it wears beautifully, and it reveals itself slowly. Besides leopard fabric is basically a neutral.
I purchased the desk locally. Some of my design books are on top of it, and the orchids are faux because the Museum doesn’t allow natural plants inside to preserve the artwork.
Sneak peek of this beautiful seating area where I combined a green Arbre de Matisse fabric from Quadrille with Mary Mcdonald’s Chinois Palais wallpaper for Schumacher. The cowhide rug has been in my house for many years.
The golden chair is from CB2. I wanted to use a modern touch with classic lines and this chair was perfect for it. It has the lines of klismos chair but in a contemporary way.
Here you can see how the chair adds friction to the space to create the perfect juxtaposition.
