The most talked about event this morning is the amazing and empowering speech Oprah gave last night at the Golden Globes. She was awarded with the Cecil B. DeMille Award, the first African American woman to ever receive it. About time. #timesup. What an extraordinary night of unity and empowerment for women of all walks of life. When Oprah talks everyone listens… Her wisdom and eloquence is more than inspiring. How amazing it was to hear her say: “At this moment, there are some little girls watching as I become the first black woman to be given this award… I want all the girls watching to know: A new day is on the horizon. When that new day finally dawns, it will be because of the magnificent women and many of them are in this room tonight.” The red carpet last night was not about naming and showcasing Designers, it was about showing solidarity to the women who started the #metoo movement as well as those others who don’t have a name but who are as equally important. It was also about supporting fundraising for #timesup, a legal defense fund to fight sexual harassment. All women wore a Time’s Up pin.
Thankfully it’s time to take out our denims, espadrilles and ruffle tops because summer and all its glory is here. It culturally starts this weekend with the celebration of Labor Day although officially a bit later. As the Sun sets later and the Rosé is ready for happy hour, the nail polishes get lighter in beautiful pastel colors. From Guerlain’s light purple-tone nail lacquer base, for those looking for a very subtle touch of color to Yves Saint Laurent ‘s
bright yellow for those more unique and adventurous.

The world is definitely changing in all aspects of life. Mostly when it comes to social media and the power that has provided to many. The world has never been this democratic. Everyone who works hard and consistent can get to have a voice and become an influencer in his or her own field. Long gone are the days when only an handful of privileged could buy themselves into such level of exposure. Many would argue if it’s positive or negative, I guess that would depend on what side you are on. Many of you may have read the remarks by Neiman Marcus and Vogue about the bad influence of bloggers. Accoring to QUARTZ,
Karen Katz, Neiman Marcus Group’s CEO complained about how “Fashion shows are now blogged and broadcast all over the world via social media. By the time the merchandise ships many months later, the newness and excitement had worn off and in many
cases, the customer has moved on.”On the other hand Vogue’s creative digital director, Sally Singer called bloggers who post outside fashion shows wearing head-to-toe, paid-to-wear outfits to be “horrible, pathetic, and
ridiculous” Going as far as saying “Note to bloggers who change head-to-toe, paid-to-wear outfits every hour: Please stop, Find another business. You are heralding the death of style.”
As a business woman in the Fashion/Accessory industry, I can perfectly relate to the Vogue and Neiman Marcus perspective when they blame the fever of social media and
how much a brand is emphatically pushed into relying on social media influencers/bloggers
to make it in the industry. If you don’t pay a blogger to wear your product you are left in the dark. It brings up the question of authenticity, individuality and ultimately real style. Further I also believe that the benefit of making a name and building a brand for yourself should not only be available to just a few. After all, all kinds of success is the result of arduous
and constant work.
Maybe it’s not about bloggers or magazines, maybe it’s time for spectators and consumers to sit back, consider the difference between a real life and an edited one and start
trusting in their own fashion choices instead of relying on someone else’s regardless of whether that’s a person or a magazine. After all, like Diana Vreeland once said “It’s not about the dress you wear, but it’s about the life you lead in the dress.”
Remember the days of the messy ponytail, well now is the time for the ultimate hairstyle, the half-bun, the hun or the half-up-bun. Whichever way you prefer to call it, the half-bun is without a doubt the most versatile and latest hairstyle fashion. A more girly version of the messy bun, the half-bun, as the name implies provides the best of both favorite hairstyles, the fresh loose hair and the more serious bun. It can be sport for day and night and I can’t get enough of it.
Turkish breakfast is healthy. It consists of tomatoes, feta cheese, olives, yogurt, jam, cucumber, usually boiled eggs and the traditional ‘pide’ bread. There is also the Turkish One Pan Eggs which is mostly for Brunch kind of day. Whenever we make them we like to keep it simple on ingredients seeing that these eggs can get quite fancy and laborious. Since today is a holiday in Brazil we decided to make these yummy eggs and enjoy them with the little one. If you’ve never tried them you should as they are deliciously crunchy. This is how easy they are to make.
You’ll need:
Cast Iron pan
PAM Spray
Sausage (traditionally ‘Sucuk’)
Presunto (traditionally Pastrami)
Tomatoes
Eggs, ‘duh..
Salt to taste
Cooking Method: Add the ingredients to the pan in the order listed above, cover the pan until eggs are cooked to your like.
