beach home living room decor ideasWhen I think of a beach or vacation home I think of a home with some level of restrain in the decor but comfortable enough to serve its purpose.  Now that summer is approaching and soon will be time to escape somewhere to relax for a couple of weeks, I find myself longing to own a vacation home where we can dine and sleep at ease and where we won’t feel like a tourist.  Case in point is this Greek home with a garden so inspiring that I may not even want to go outside.  The elegant but laid-back decor of soothing and sophisticated tones of blue and beige in the upholstered pieces combined with the washed wood furniture, cane chairs, bare floors and beam ceilings painted in light blue makes this home a perfect place to come back at the end of the day with lots of veggies and a bottle of wine to cook.  I don’t know where in Greece this home is located but, the use of Turkish tiles as wainscoting and its pointed arched doorways give this home just the right amount of global chic which would be appealing to a world traveler.

This weekend is a long holiday here in Brazil and we are planning on spending it by enjoying one of the best things Brazil has to offer: The Beach!  We are hitting the road this morning and seclude ourselves in a place where there is no phone, tv or internet inside the rooms, where we are expected to walk up a 250 meter hill to reach our destination (no cars allowed) and where I have no idea how all this simple pleasures experience will work out!  Wish us luck!  There used to be the time when success and full fulfillment was the hardest thing to accomplish now a days is let go of our modern days commodities, being connected… and to be 100% present which is what we are all truly suppose to do.  Have an excellent time wherever you are!

Take a tour of Jacques Grange’s vacation home in the very private area of Portogallo, Portugal.  I found these new images at Marie Claire Maison Italy, and some of the things I was able to interpret was that the house was previously a fisherman’s house and Grange did not change any of the exterior features.  “Fa tanto rustico-chic”  he says, and I agree.  Casa Nina was decorated in a fundamental but sophisticated way, respecting the originality of the house and using whites and many tones of wood, Moroccan carpet and Jacques Grange’s characteristic use of African textile.  Grange’s ceramic collection from Portugal, Turkey, and France are displayed throughout his exquisite vacation home.  Enjoy!

Kelly Wearstler did it again. This time in a unconventional beach house she designed for her family.  All furniture and decorative pieces are sculpture on their own.  Many of the furniture and sculptures use in Kelly Wearstler’s Malibu beach home were custom designed by Wearstler.  I know this is not a house that it would be appealing to many people.  One reason I like this house it’s because it exemplifies that not everything is made equal in design.  Wearstler is a modernist and it can be seen in every detail used in this house.

I absolutely love the inter lacking design of this sculptural staircase. Clever, the way Wearstler made of an often useless space into something stunning.  Would you guess this is bleached-walnut?
