Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening“-Chanel   I agree, but for now…let’s just wrap it around our wrists.

I’ve been saving part of these images that I found here for ever.  Most of these photographs were taken by Henry Clarke around the 60’s and I love that there were a lot of classic ladies wearing striped outfits.  Henry Clarke was an American fashion photographer who after meeting Celil Beaton at Vogue, became enchanted by the magic of photography, moved to Paris and soon started working for Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue.  Ada from Classiq recently made a great post about him. Check it out.  These images are just so inspiring and admirable to look at, especially now-a-days when there is so much obnoxious reality shows going on.  Sometimes I get to ask myself how did we go from there to now?

This vision of these models overlooking the ocean in Palermo is what I really want for my summer.  More please.
This photograph of Susan Murray also by Henry Clarke 1966 reminds me of the Whirling Dervishes in Turkey.

Women’s love for shoes is undeniable and who can blame us? I’m loving the global chic influence on these wedges by Oscar De La Renta and the flat sandals below would be perfect to stroll flea markets on Sundays. Which one would you pick?

 Kaftan via belle vivir

When I think of Kaftan the first image that comes to my mind is the image of Lee Radziwill sitting in her ottoman-inspired drawing room in London, way before I was born, where she seemed to be wearing an elaborate embroidery Kaftan. I can’t emphasize enough how much I prefer to stay away from heavy fabrics such as denim because they’re cold in the Winter and hot in the Summer. There is nothing I love more than loose clothes that will make me feel comfortable in the summer, and Kaftan always do it for me. Did you know that Kaftan was originally created as a men’s outfit worn by the Ottoman sultans?

I love this image. It’s so 70’s. It reminds me of the Jill Sander Spring 2011 striped maxi dress

Now, this is a fabulous Pucci kaftan worn by Simone D’aillencourt. I can imagine myself wearing something like this while sitting by a swimming pool, sipping a martini and enjoying the refreshing breeze. This is a much affordable version. Antik Batik makes really beautiful ones too and Issa has this really chic one, love the fabric.

Go chic or go and visit a funeral. Growing up I remember seeing old ladies who only wore black and did nothing more than go to funerals to pray. They were always mourning someone even if it was someone they didn’t really know. For me black has been a color associated with mourning and I literally feel heavy when dressed in black. When there is absolutely nothing for me to wear I would go for black usually because you don’t really distinguish one black outfit from the other, but Friends and family tend to compliment me on when “I have nothing else to wear” occurs. I did some search and concluded that the best way to wear an all-black outfit should be in a chic modern way. No matchy matchy suits or too formal outfits. All these ladies are inspiring me to see black clothes in a completely different way.
