Introducing La Belle House by Belle Vivir Blog

We recently purchased a house in a complete outdated condition inside, which mean the house is in a perfect Interior-Designer-State-Of-Mind… What we like more about it is the stone structure that resembles a lot the stone homes around Provence, France.  The house is located in a very strict area where everything done to the exterior needs to be of natural material so no plastic windows and no plastic siding.  I’m happy and ok with that, although the rules sometimes go too far as to limit us when it comes to choosing the type of windows.  For instance I would love to replace a few for steel casement windows but that wont’ be possible.  However, we are very exited with our remodeling which I might share in this blog, only if I can figure out a way to do that exclusively with subscribers.  I need to see how can that be possible… Never done it before.  The process of the house will not be public, thus only shared with those that sign up for follow ups from this specific post… I still need to come up with a name for the house but for now we’ll call it La Belle House…

I’m very happy and excited to share this endeavour with you…I hope you join us.  Looking forward…

While flipping through House & Garden magazine I was delighted to come across Henri Fitzwilliam-Lay.  I had seen snippets of her sophisticated interiors here and there but did not notice the Interior Designer behind them.  “Henri Fitzwilliam-Lay has always worked in a creative field, she started in New York City as a fashion stylist for some of the top department stores and magazines such as ELLE and then graduated into art direction, managing photo shoots and layouts for renowned stores like Bergdorf Goodman, Brooks Brothers and Bloomingdales. This set her up for her next move to the United Kingdom and interior design.” H.F.L

With such a background, exposure to top creative fields and exquisite environment, it’s no wonder that Henri Fitzwilliam-Lay’s interiors are enveloped in an aura of culture and refinement.   Her finely detailed rooms exude a sense of coziness and elegance juxtaposed with modern touches that make them mature and elegant but still cozy and inviting.

This stunning living room, upholstered in blue and green, was the one responsible for introducing me to Fitzwilliam’s work.  I admire very much how harmoniously she uses color in a room.

We finally bought our home here in Dublin and the exciting stage is about to start soon.  Boy, I can’t  wait… The house as it is now is a complete disaster, which makes me somehow weirdly happy.  Every single surface, space and room needs to be redone, replaced or updated from floor to ceiling and windows… you name it.  So it’s safe to say that we won’t be moving anytime soon.  And you may be asking yourself what do all this have to do with two tone kitchens… Well if you know America’s obsession with white kitchens… I thought it would be a good idea to try to do something different while still beautiful.  And also because I just realized how much I’ve loved two tone kitchens for like ever…

I also realized that I favor kitchens that don’t necessarily look too much like traditional kitchens, if you know what I mean… absence of upper cabinets, furniture like islands and a more lounging atmosphere in general, etc….

Now don’t you fret… by two tone kitchens I mean a contrasting color on either lower cabinets, upper cabinets or island and it usually works out very well.

Not for everyone but contrasting colors in this kitchen are surely rewarding and unique.  Green and white…

Who hasn’t dreamed of owning a villa in the South of France… I know.  I have… Many. Times.  Or at least a modest home.  Frederik Fekkai’s vacation home in Provence is a paradise as he himself describes it to Architectural Digest where the home was featured last year.  The home, located in Aix-en-Provence where Fekkai was born and raised  is surrounded by olives trees, lavender bushes and cypress trees gracing the entrance… it also has an olive orchard on one side of the home.

Gray is one of the colors that offers neutrality while adding color…  Whether it is dark or light, with beige or blue undertones, gray is among the most beautiful colors there is.  It’s super versatile as well because it is a color that can be used either in modern or traditional design.  Gray bedrooms with accents of gold throughout provide a modern and glamorous look.  For a more classic look, gray bedrooms with a mixture of black accessories would be ideal.  Gray-hued wall paints are among the favorites of designers…  No wonder that many, myself included call gray the new black… And let’s not forget the coziness and warmness it can create when used as a color option for a seagrass wallpaper…

I love how soothing and romantic this room is… the different tones of gray mixed with silver, browns, blacks, pink flowers and antique mirror is what a stylish doctor would recommend for a romantic bedroom…

During the glorious summer days, wicker and rattan are two of the things that come most to my mind.  There is something about this home designed by Luis Puerta that reminds me of those elements.  Perhaps it’s is the wood tone or the wicker accessories that Puerta uses throughout… The entire atmosphere in this home is very cozy and inviting…something about the decor gives it a glamorous vintage feel…A mixture of classic and modern furniture enhances the beautiful restored herringbone floors.

I really like the nostalgic feel in this living room.  I think that has a lot to do with the slip covered chair, the gorgeous herringbone floor, the antique framed wall mirrors and the stone fireplace.
