Joseph Dirand, A Paris apartment designed by Joseph Dirand

After posting the kitchen designed by Joseph Dirand yesterday, it’s a rigor to post the rest of this breath taking Paris apartment.  This apartment designed by him is situated in the widely popular neighborhood of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris and I would say that it also falls into the “new modern” category I spoke about yesterday where the design concept is still simple with “less is more” as the standard but, without sacrificing the warmth and provenance of the space.  And I’m sure that you would assume that such magnificent Interior Architectural features as stunning parquet floors found all throughout the house, extraordinary floor-to-ceiling French doors providing unbeatable amounts of light, and walls dressed with elegant ornate moldings, doesn’t need much to be enhanced further.  Unquestionably though Dirand went on and did his magic by adding wonderful and sculptural furniture, paired them with top notch art while keeping the color palette to the minimum.  The result is a perfect symphony of harmony and beauty to treat our eyes.  See more gorgeous Paris abodes here.

new and modern kitchen design ideas

The design of the new modern kitchen has forever changed.  The new modern kitchen is far from the cold, showroom-looking kitchens that were once considered contemporary.  The design savvy homeowners are aware that a modern or contemporary design has more to do with the functionality and use of the space than with the final (outlook) of the room.  The main focus in remodeling or designing a kitchen nowadays is about planning and making the right choices to make life in a kitchen more enjoyable and productive.  The pictures below show some images of what a modern kitchen design looks like today.

Michael Bruno, Home in Tuxedo Park, Michael Bruno Home Tuxedo Park via Belle vivir blog
The collection of unique furniture in Machael Bruno ‘s home in Tuxedo Park, New York should not take any by surprise.  He is the founder of 1stdibs, the international online retail site for antique aficionados.  Michael Bruno ‘s new home seems to be on a picture perfect setting:  a Georgian home located in 11.3 acres with an impressive waterfront lake.  Michael’s keen eye for great properties comes from his earlier days as a real estate agent which I think only enhances his experience on antiques.  via WSJ Magazine
Black wall painted rooms, black walls in home decor ideas

Painting the walls or an entire room of your home in black may sound scary.  Lately we are seeing more fearless home owners that choose black paint to paint an entire room or one stand along wall.  They are choosing a more daring home decor for their homes.  In modern interior design results are not out of a text book anymore which means that there is no rule when it comes to decorating.  Rules are to be broken they say.  However, there are a few elements to consider when choosing black walls for your home.  Many of the best black rooms I’ve seen share a few decor style elements in common.  Light color floors and furniture, decent amount of incoming light, and contrasting wall art that stand out dramatically against the black walls.  For even a more soothing and cozy ambiance in a room, a black grass cloth wallpaper would be a great option.  A black grass cloth or seagrass wallpaper would create depth and a subtle sheen on the walls.  For a children room decor or for a kitchen design area, a chalkboard wall would be very suitable. Black wall painted rooms is a wonderful way to modernize a space.

Sarah Lavoine via belle vivir
French interiors are not that easy to stamp.  They do share common threads though that only stress further this fact.  Emphasis on personal style, highly refined finishes and details, and a disengagement from decorating rules in general.  The main focus is on the architecture and its preservation.  That’s why we don’t get to see two French homes that are identical, even when designed by the same Interior Designer.  Something that’s highly admirable.  The designer Sarah Lavoine designed this apartment with a perfect French flair.  Enjoy!
