home decor with hammered brass sconce
a 1950’s Italian hammered bronze sconce, via House Beautiful

Only a few would argue with me that if there were a synonym word for Glam that would be Brass.  I know that finishes in a decor would depend on what environment you are willing to create.  In a farm house you may probably find chrome or brushed chrome instead of brass?  But for environments or atmospheres where a dose of sophistication is required you probably would end up with some brass thrown in.  It’s a classic!  Hand hammered brass takes all that up a notch by adding texture and a sense of provenance.  We’ve seen it vastly used in Moroccan design, which is known for being exotic and sometimes over the top.  Below are a few items that would make anything else around them dance and be merry.  Enjoy!

I’m in the process of sprucing up this blog’s “looks”.  My goal is to create a clean and undistracted background for the images and posts to stand out.  I’m pleased with it so far but it’s actually a work in progress.

Lately I’ve been loving the Industrial Decor, mostly thanks to Steven Volpe’s home featured recently in Elle Decor (picture above).  There is something downtown-chic in Industrial Decor that makes me feel young and adventurous every time I see a room with industrial touches.  Unlike more feminine decor it’s a style that can appeal to women as much as men.   It’s also budget friendly due to the vast availability of vintage industrial furniture at flee markets.  Some of the staples of Industrial decor are muted colors like browns, black, white, grays; too much pattern and color is not its thing, while finishes such as metal, unfinished or whitewashed wood, leather and hides are more used.  As much as I love build-ins, I think there is a lot of flexibility in bookcase on casters.  Below, a shopping suggestion of really cool bookcases! Enjoy!

Right now we have our laundry machines in a small room in the basement.  Nothing fancy and beautiful but they’re fine where they are.  They are, in the end laundry machines anyway and I rather by far, have more living space assigned for more fun activities than doing laundry.  That was my belief until I saw this adorable vintage wire basket for sale at ABC Home.  There was a time when I used to visit ABC Carpet and Home only for fun and for the feeling of enchantment.  Yesterday I was perusing their website and found that they have added more of their inventory online which makes everything a lot easier for me now.  I won’t use the basket, but maybe I could use the shawl by Tibet Arts and Crafts to go into the basement to do laundry in the winter .

The lamp above is not for sale but it was too beautiful to ignore.  Enjoy!

Adirondack chairs are quintessentially American and although I believe they are not that good looking they could be cute comfortable.  The traditional ones could be a bit rustic but then again, they’re cooomfortable…. and with the new designs now available everyone who is up for comfort can enjoy one without sacrificing style.  Below is a list of more modern Adirondack chairs. Enjoy

You have to agree with me that these Christian Louboutin loafers are the mother of all loafers, stylishly speaking.  They look surprisingly comfortable, hip, modern, and simply amazing with a heavy dose of rock and roll.  They are available at Saks by special order in case you’re wondering.  I think they rock!!!  Below is a selection of more affordable loafers but still stylish and young.  Enjoy.  Top image via Stockholm-Streetstyle.

Without being redundant I can’t resist professing my eternal love for stripes, one more time.  I seriously cannot get enough of it.  It has turned to a point where most of the gifts I’m getting lately either have some stripes or are completely covered by it.  I bookmark all the striped things I come across.  This list here are some of my favorite things in stripes right now.  I’m sure I’ve left some out that I will eventually post.  Enjoy

These Claire Vivier in leather with silk screen stripe are not only chic but they are also really affordable.
A bold art statement on your walls can literally brighten up any day by Jonathan Lewis here and Coach is designing some seriously cute bangles, this one is hip and bohemian.

Resort Cabanas has really glamorous Beach cabanas.  B&B Italian UP armchair & footstool, striped by Gaetano Pesce is just adorable.

Cup and saucer here and the tribal stripes on this cotton rug is definitely calling my name, I think I would love it more if it were in multicolu, at West Elm.
