resurgence in classical design

To our delight and comfort, there is a resurgence in classical design from Interiors to Architecture.  The elegance and comfort that classical homes provide are hard to emulate in a modern setting.  Classic Architecture, as well as classical Interior Design, is never dull, and they provide a sense of belonging and gracious living.  Now when most homes in social media look strikingly the same, it’s very comforting to see this revival of new classical style.  The beauty of a Georgian Home, one of many traditional styles in Architecture, is indisputable.

resurgence in classical design

Recently I came across this very interesting article Inside Architecture New Classism Boom.  In designing a northern California stone house for clients who wanted to make a grand yet livable house for four children, Eric J. Smith—who collaborated with legendary designer David Easton for 25 years—looked to Irish Georgian houses and also old stone houses of America. An abandoned old quarry in Connecticut was the source of stones with a rich patina. He points out that classicism embraced the use of natural light and the prevailing breezes. “An enfilade of natural light connects one room to the next,” notes Smith. The paneled library is a masterpiece of wood carving. And indeed, Smith suggests that craftsmen are unsung heroes in classicism. “We are not embracing the role of the craftsman as much as we should,” he says.  “We are always trying not to copy the past, but to interpret it and reinterpret it as artists often do,” Robert A. M. Stern

resurgence in classical design, gray appartment

Some people prefer to combine classical Interior Architecture with a more straightforward decor.  Modern living in a traditional interior.  That is the case with this 18th-century architecture apartment in Copenhagen which is decorated in a monochromatic palette of grey and simple furniture.  An All-Gray Apartment That’s Not Blah, But Not Hygge Either. 3-day detox

I’ve been trying intermittent fasting for the past three weeks with no avail.  My fixed weight loves me so much that it doesn’t matter what I do, it just doesn’t leave me.  My weight has officially reached a plateau.  Now that I know I can spend hours on only unsweetened tea, Detox doesn’t scare me anymore.  A 3-Day Sumer Detox Reset doesn’t sound that bad.  An LA-based holistic nutritionist designs the Detox that eliminates sugar, dairy, and other potential food allergens.  “This program is simple. We’ve eliminated all the usual suspects (gluten, dairy, corn, sugar, alcohol, and caffeine), and it’s mostly vegetarian, save for some bone broth. Here’s the basic routine: Every morning, start with a probiotic-rich tonic and bone broth.”

freezing ovaries for preserving fertility

freezing ovaries for preserving fertility

The thought of freezing ovaries for preserving fertility is mind-blowing.  There have been several success stories of women having children after retransplantation of their ovaries.  Ovary freezing is used most often to preserve fertility on cancer patients who don’t have time to freeze their eggs before undergoing chemotherapy.  The procedure has nearly a 40 percent global success rate.  Read more about it here.

I love to run.  I never thought I was going to be able to run since I was never an athletic child then I discovered that if I tried harder or alas push myself by running for 5 straight minutes the first week, 10 the next and so on, it could get myself to do it for straight 40 minutes.  I know that’s nothing for professional runners, but for me, that is enough.  And towards the end of those 40 minutes, my body lets me know it’s time to stop, so I listen.  I noticed that after I run I feel better in general, more relaxed but at the same time more excited, I feel more powerful and capable.  All mindfulness-based practices that make us concentrate on our breathing and being present can give us psychological and cognitive benefits.  I was happy when I came across this article about What Does Running Do To Your Brain.  It explains with scientific facts how running can improve the functioning of our general being.

And while you are there, working on your body while working on your brain, work some more and learn how to improve your memory, Science tells us the key.

Did you ever hear of injectable skincare?  Neither did I, until I read this article that indicates that the next great thing would be just that.  Apparently, with this very new way of using skin care, injectable skincare, the usual skin glow from topical serum appears to come from within the skin.  Read more about it here.

essential oils, how to build muscle, quote via belle vivirThis week’s recommended links list is short and sweet.

I enjoy a chic scented candle and furthermore if it exudes a good smell.  Anything that remotely resembles the fragrance of bergamot is a seller to me, however lately I’ve been rather curious about the negative health effect of waxes in certain candles.  It’s said that the paraffin found in some candles can be toxic, and are carcinogen once burned.   Since many companies decide not to declare what their wax is made of… I’m becoming increasingly interested in products with honest ingredients and nothing is more truthful than essential oils.  They are what they say they are, extractions of natural plants and seeds.  To embark on the rode of candid aromas, I’m getting one of these diffusers which are not only themselves made of ceramic and porcelain, two materials derived of natural sources, but they look good as well, so I can burn oils wherever I want in my house without the feeling of appearing ugly.  To read more about all the ways you can use and mix essential oils go here.

I go to the gym very morning around 6:30 at least four days a week and work out with a trainer three times a week.  However, since I wasn’t an athletic child it has taken me a long ride to get in my “ideal mind shape”  if such a thing can happen outside Hollywood.  Experts in the field say that our bodies start losing muscle once we pass our thirties.  This age-related muscle loss is known as sarcopenia.  Not a nice word, right… Here is how you can slow the process and in some cases even reverse it.

And last, if you’ve been putting off a hard conversation, here you can find some advice to get that difficult conversation started.  A hint, don’t worry about not being liked too much.
