Coral fans as accessories for home decor can be pretty.  Although I have to admit I feel guilty to own a real one and the antique ones could cost top dollar. Do some of you know where I can buy good reproductions of sea fans? I would love to display a small collection on my living room wall. You can buy real sea fans and other sea lives kind at Karen Robertson Collection and Ruzzetti and Gow this last in NYC.

House Beautiful

Every time I see this photograph of Jackie Kennedy Onassis a smile comes to my face. She looked so happy and beautiful and I love the contrast of her red dress against the blue sea.

You can enjoy two exhibitions of the marvelous Picasso’s etchings, aquatints, lithographs and linocuts within just four blocks distance from each other.
“Picasso: Themes and Variations” runs through Aug. 30 at the Museum of Modern Art and “Celebrating the Muse: Women in Picassos’s Prints From 1905-1968” will take place at the Marlborough Gallery through May 1.
It’s easier to make than you think and it’s the first thing to do when it comes to decorating a room. What you’ll need: preferably big white paper, a triangle, a t-square, enough tracing paper and perhaps the most important tool, an architectural ruler. After you take two measurements of the room making sure to include doors, radiators, stair landing window seals and their respective heights, also take notes of electric and telephone outlets. It’s always a good idea as long as you take measurements to draw an unofficial floor plan as well as take pictures of the place to remember it accurately. Once ready to start drawing decide on the scale you want to use. I prefer to use a scale of 1/4 or 1/2 because I like the furniture to look big enough. After having the floor plan of an empty room then the fun part begins. Having enough tracing paper will allow you to be able to try different furniture layouts without having to erase anything. A T-square will keep your drawing straight. Don’t be afraid of your not-so-good looking drawings, the shape of the furniture don’t need to be as perfect as long as the measurements are correct. Have fun and go and make your room as beautiful as you deserve it.

My hubby and I always talk about getting a dog for Lucas once/if we agree on the right age for him to start living with one. What kind will it be? So when I went into Mark Shaw‘s website and saw his new limited edition Animal Prints I was delighted. Mark Shaw is the celebrated fashion photographer from the 1950’s. He is best known for his photographs of Jackie and John F. Kennedy, which he shot originally for LIFE magazine and then became a close friend of the famous couple. Mark Shaw worked for LIFE magazine for 16 years shooting covers and more than 100 stories. He also worked for Harper’s Bazaar, Mademoiselle and a number of other publications. He photographed some of the most prominent and glamorous celebrities, among them Pablo Picasso, Grace Kelly, Brigitte Bardot, Coco Chanel and Audrey Hepburn. Hepburn’s photographs culminated into a book called Charmed by Audrey published last year. Animal Prints is a special collection of animal photographs with their celebrity owners. I love how in the website below each photograph there is a description of each dog. The English Springer Spaniel, my all times favorite dog, is described as “the founder of all English Hunting Spaniels, is favored for work close to the handler and under the gun and is used to flush out and spring on game. The English Springer Spaniel’s excellent work with the hunter in the field leads to its sweet disposition. Springer Spaniels are excellent family dogs and infinitely companionable.” I think in this house, we have a winner.
