Month: November 2011

Get your sequined dresses out of that attic box, shake them up and line them up because The Holidays  are fast approaching and so do the festive hearts.  You didn’t think there was something else good enough to match up Christmas magic… Leave it to the sparkle of sequins to set the mood in any party if not to make anyone look prettier.  So a camera in one hand and a flute of bubbles in the other one-  live on!   Until then, have a very Festive Weekend!

I have great respect for these three ladies.  They have exquisite taste and a keen eye for details and good quality.

Tina is the classy lady from The Enchanted Home and she has me in awe of her jaw dropping home she and her husband are building.  To say this mansion is a Dream Home is an understatement, this is more of an achievement.   In her blog Tina kindly shares her finds and the development of her new home, which is almost ready for her and her family to move in.  If you haven’t been to Tina’s blog you must.  Enjoy it in good health Tina!  Check out her blog here

Nancy from Marcus Design blog captivated us all with the ingenious transformation of a pair of simple Ikea side tables that she made into perfect replicas of Dorothy Draper chests.  You probably remember this incredible DIY project because it got deservedly praised in many blogs.  Nancy and her husband have been slowly renovating her rancher and she shares the process in her blog.  Recently they transformed one wall of her living room by adding wood and making it look like a panel wall.  Check out her blog and be inspired.

Isn’t that insane?  Can you believe this perfect Dorothy Draper replica is an Ikea table?  Nancy is really a genius.
I’m a lover and a constant advocate of enhancing architectural details so when I saw what Nancy did with her living room wall I was happy.  If you want to see the before pictures visit her inspiring blog.

 Isn’t that powder room beautiful?

Ally from the Right Bank is a long time blogger who recently revealed one of her latest projects in her home and I just couldn’t help posting it here because it is simply pretty.   Ally is constantly updating and decorating her home and she shares the eye candy with her readers.   You can see more here

Tonight, I’m going to the private preview of PAD New York and I can’t think of a better and easier outfit to wear than a dress.  Although I know I’m going to end up wearing pants because I get too cold around this time of the year, when it’s not cold enough for coats but it’s too cold for flowing dresses.

No white or natural wood cabinetry for a change in this weeks’ kitchen of the week.  The decor in this kitchen that I found at Erin’s blog House of Turquoise caught my attention for its clever use of color in the cabinetry.  It’s there but not in your face, the effect is almost as neutral as white or beige.  I also love the height of the cabinetry.  It’s smart to use all the wall space you have and make the entire area more functional and grander.  You may be wondering why all appliances that one can imagine are together in one kitchen…and that’s because the owner is an apprentice chef who has incredibly good looking brass pendants hanging in her kitchen.  I mean…let’s take a moment here…don’t these pendants lend a life changing factor to this kitchen?

I kind of like how the backsplash looks from this angle where it adds uniqueness to the design elements.  The designer Dee Dee Taylor Hannah probably thought that there’s been enough white subway tiles (something I still love regardless)  in the history of design and opted for something a little bit more modern for a traditional kitchen.  I’m not a big fan of this type of glass tile, but one of the things I love more about blogging is when I come across something that perhaps makes me think twice.  I never get tired of things that wake up all my senses and possibilities and in this kitchen those glass tiles really make all the sense.  I think that using white subway tiles in this kitchen would have probably made it one more typical kitchen.

An integrated coffee maker, warmer drawer and whatever that thing under the microwave/oven is, are on my list for my next kitchen.

I usually do my computer work out of our kitchen table so one of the things I would love to have in my future kitchen is a work space in it to open letters, write notes and put together to-do lists… I would need a chair with back support though.  Can my list get any longer?  Enjoy!

Set the table tonight in a simple but beautiful way?  Decorate it with vegetables or fruits, simple white everyday plates and your favorite silverware?  This gorgeous table setting can be accomplished with no purchase necessary.  The salt and pepper is cleverly put in small leaves of cabbage and the votive candle inserted in a turnip.  How simple and beautiful!
