Month: June 2012

It’s Tuesday already but I’d like to share with you a brief sneak peak of a project and snippets of our weekend, which was all about relaxing and walking.  We visited a family member who just had a baby boy.  What a cutie! And then it was all about hanging around and spending some time for myself while enjoying a bubble bath.

I’m often low in iron so there is always the perfect excuse to have an open burger.  Bobby Flay makes the best ones.

decided to use Ringwold for the bedroom (above) and Renaissance for the
entrance.

My admiration for Rafael Nadal goes beyond his super human powers on court or clay where he proved today he is unbeatable.  I admire his humbleness, kindness, sweet smile and the obvious respect he has for his parents, Uncle Tony (his coach) and his fans.  He is definitely the kind of young man anyone would like her daughter to date.  I’m super happy for him holding the record of seven French Open Titles.  Congratulations Nadal!

Summer is my favorite season of all.  I grew up in a hot, hot island drinking lots of cold “morir sonando,” a mixture of milk with orange juice with chopped ice, while lying down on the cool and refreshing concrete polished floor.  That same floor I used as a slide when the cleaning ladies were washing it.  It was so much fun!  Here’s to good memories and long summer weekends!  How much I wish I had that floor again during these past super hot days. Thankfully we’ve had a few nicer, less hot days lately that have given us the chance for a breath of fresh air.  The weekend however seems to be bringing along another heat wave that would make me more hungry for a vacation getaway.  My hubby and I have been discussing how wonderful would be to hit the Amalfi Coast, unfortunately that seems too far from the true since we instead, need to be getting ready for our move to Sao Paulo, hopefully we’ll make to Punta Del Este for Christmas, fingers crossed!  Last week I had our home professionally photographed by Robert Levin and I’m extremely happy with the result.  I can’t wait to share it with you.

Why can’t I be a Rolls Royce soccer mom?

The days when there was no reality TV and the dirty laundry was washed inside the house are unfortunately long gone.  No need to say what times we are living now.  One more reason why I love history and am very appreciative of the organizations that have done the work to preserve them.  These images from the Conde Nast Photo Archives speak for themselves.  Enjoy!

Having a TV in the kitchen is a common practice in the American family. It can be either beneficial or not beneficial, depending on how is used. Many people have a TV aversion. Sort of like the TV will slowly morph into their brains, brain wash them, and wake up the next day as an even worse person. I can understand the sentiment, however as everything else in life moderation is the is the key. A TV in the kitchen can be helpful for the mornings when everyone is multitasking while getting ready to rush out the door. Let’s not forget that balance is a very important discipline in life. I currently don’t have a TV in our kitchen but, I’m guilty of turning on the one in our living room and keeping it on while making in the kitchen, hello CNN in the background. It keeps me company while well informed! However in the mornings when we find time to sit down and have a decent breakfast, the TV will be off for quality family time. Another benefit is the feeling of familiarity a TV provides to any room.  Below, 7 Stylish Ways To Incorporate A TV In Your Kitchen.

Keep it highly above the Fridge.  By keeping it high enough and not a at eye level, it becomes more of a sound device and will keep you from visual distraction.

Keep it next to your morning coffee station.  Having a small TV next to where you prepare your coffee every morning is deal to catch up with the news briefly.

Hang it on the wall.  In a modern kitchen with bare walls and no upper cabinets close by,  the use of a pivoted arm to hang the TV is a clean option.  Especially if it’s in front of a breakfast area.

Customize a space for it and treat the TV as if it were an appliance.  By camouflaging the TV into a custom wood wall it practically disappears.

Keep it tucked way in a corner.  By keeping it in a corner is not only out of the way but it can also be enjoyed from many different angles in the kitchen.

Hang it from the upper cabinets.  Now this way takes it to the next lever because it doesn’t occupy any space of your counter.  I love the red in this kitchen where the TV is attached to the upper cabinets.

Hide it inside a cabinet or shelf.  This is probably the easiest way to incorporate a TV in your kitchen.  By having doors on the cabinet will allow to close it off whenever you like.

I love the style of The Olsen Twins from their oversize outfit to their skinny jeans.  Sadly I think I may have some issues with adjusting styles according to my age since I’m not as young as The Olsens were in this picture anymore, but I don’t feel like it. After dressing too formal all my life all of a certain all I want to do sometimes is to dress as comfy and careless as they do, especially during summer.
