Usually Ranch and sophisticated are two words we don’t find in the same sentence. However Interior Design well planned and executed can do wonders as it’s proved in this Upstate New York ranch designed by Ernest de la Torre. The home the designer renovated
from top to bottom for his family is full of designers furniture an element more associated with urban dwellers and a collection of art that is more than inspiring. Ernest de la Torre shares the Hudson River ranch with his husband, Kris Haberman, and their son, Parker. The couple lived eight years in the house before undertaking the renovation. The combination of rusticity and modern elements make this ranch a perfect home for any self-proclaimed urbanite.
One of the things I admire more in design in general is the result ofa design that is unique, different and out of the ordinary and common. Sadly I see a trend in social media where all design looks the same. It’s refreshing to see that top magazines like Elle Decor are not losing their direction and continue unto providing the world of design with endless unique and personalized inspirations. It’s important to keep an open mind and look outside just Pinterest when it comes to motivation.
“I like things to be unique,” says de la Torre, “so that someone
can’t come along and say, ‘Well, I could do that too.’ I’d rather create
something new.”
The master bedroom is covered in a Ralph Lauren wool in a cobalt blue, the ceiling light was found in a Paris flea market.
Ernest installed steel casement windows throughout the house bringing in natural light while adding interesting architectural detail. The kitchen has rhombus tiles.
