December is for enjoying family members over soirees and being merry, but between those reunions there is always time to take a break from the stress of the Holidays and catch the exhibits of our favorite artists. New York
Art in the Open: 50 Years of Public Art in New York, at Museum of the City of New York Through May 13, 2018
The Museum of the City of New York is highlighting some of the most influential works ever displayed in the street of New York, so if you missed some of these artists work, this is the time to catch up and see the most innovative ones under one roof. Among the artists exhibiting are Kara Walker and Christo and Jeanne-Claude.
David Hockney at The Met, Through February 25, 2018
Hockney is a very accomplished artist from England, he also lives in L.A. on and off for the past 30 years. This exhibition presents the most iconic works of his career from 1960 to the present, encompassing a wide range of media from painting, photography and video.
Josef Albers in Mexico at Guggenheim Through February 18, 2018
“During their first visit to Mexico, in the winter of 1935–36, Josef and Anni Albers knew that they were in a “country for art like no other.” The couple returned to Mexico thirteen times by the late 1960s, developing a passion for pre-Columbian art and architecture that would influence Josef’s abstract painting and prints and fuel his innovative approach to photography.” The exhibition features six sites in Mexico and the paintings that bear their names. ” In art, tradition is to create, not to revive” Josef Albers.
London Painters at Ordovas Through January 18, 2018
Many of the work exhibited in the Ordovas Gallery by London painters have never been in the US. Work by Lucian Freud, Francis Bacon, David Hockney and others will be at the exhibition.

Irving Penn, Grand Palais Through January 29, 2018
This exhibition organized by The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Reunion des musses nationaux-Grand Palais in collaboration with The Irving Penn Foundation, is the first major retrospective of the American artist’s work in France since his death. With more than 235 photographic prints as well as a selection of his drawings and paintings.
Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain
David Hockney: 82 Portraits and 1 Still-life at Guggenheim Bilbao, Through February 25, 2018
It seems that David Hockney is the artist of the month with three exhibitions and counting, happening in the month of December. This one in Bilbao presents recent portraits created by the artist in his LA studio in the period of three days. All the portraits share the same characteristics, same chair, same blue background with only the subject’s personality shining through.

France is a Feast, The Photographic Journey of Paul and Julia Child at Napa Valley Museum. Through February 18, 2018
“This World Premiere Exhibition showcases rarely seen black and white photographs taken by Paul Child in France between 1948 and 1954. Featuring Paul’s extraordinary photographs of Paris, Marseille and the French countryside after the Second World War, the exhibit will also include rare objects and intimate pictures of Paul’s wife, Julia Child.
Miami
Art/Basel, Miami From December 7 – 10, 2017
In this American show edition, world leading galleries will show work from masters of Modern and contemporary art, as well as emerging stars. Art from wide range of media are on display in the main exhibition hall. “Ambitious large‐scale artworks, films and performances become part of the city’s outdoor landscape at nearby Collins Park and Sound Scape Park.”
Palm Beach, Florida
Kips Bay Palm Beach Show House, Through December 19, 2017
This is the first time ever for the Kips Bay Decorators Show House in Palm Beach. The Florida Show House is open to the public through December 19 and will benefit both Kips Bay in New York and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County. The lucky property where talented designers are showcasing their creation is Villa Belmonte a two-story Twenties Mediterranean-style home. A must visit for inspiration and a great cause to support.
