Layering Rugs For a Cozy and Collected Look

Creating the perfect ambiance in your home can be fun and challenging.  Various flooring trend ideas provide an ideal foundation for building beautiful and appealing decor in a home. Rugs can be the perfect accessory to make your space cozy and inviting.  More specifically, layering rugs throughout your home will allow you to incorporate different textures and patterns into your living spaces.  We all know that rugs protect floors from wear while also adding a decorative element to the home.

One factor that should be taken into consideration when layering rugs are textures and patterns.  One of the most appealing aspects of rugs over rugs is how cozy and collected can make a room feel.  When a guest enters your home, you want them to feel welcomed and relaxed.  Likewise, you want to feel that your home and its intimate spaces are peaceful retreats.  Textures and patterns will make your living room or bedroom feel warm and inviting, especially natural textures such as cowhide, jute, and sisal.  When layering rugs look to include various styles like wool, bamboo, and even animal skin, the space looks more exciting and inviting.

Grand Hallway

When placing rugs on a hallway, one element should be taken into consideration.  One of the main factors is abandoning some of the more traditional decorating tips when it comes to rug placement.  For instance, if you have a long narrow entryway or hallway like the one below, avoid runners and opt for a couple of small or midsize flat-weave rugs.  If you are looking for a more relaxed sort of a bohemian style, then, by all means, don’t follow conventional rules, and instead, place the rugs at an angle to add interest and a natural flow as in the picture below.  Remember that it’s all about what pleases you and what style are you looking to accomplish.  Don’t be afraid to experiment with sizes and shapes until you find a combination that is right for your space.  For safety reasons, I prefer flat-weave for hallways and remember to add non-slip rug pads to avoid any accidents.  Above is a more traditional way of placing rugs in a hallway or entryway, which is ok as well if you are looking for a more traditional look.  A traditional rug is placed over a jute rug.

Layering Flat-weave Rugs Over Wall-To-Wall Carpet

Bedrooms are the perfect rooms in a home to make as cozy as possible and layering a smaller rug on a wall-to-wall carpet is the way to go to accomplish such effect.  Flat-weave rugs are perfect to place on top of a thicker wall to wall carpet to avoid a cluttered look.

Layered rugs can also be colorful to provide an anchor for the different rooms in your home. In open layout homes, for example, colorful rugs can blend in other nearby rooms.  You should choose colorful patterns that are consistent with the overall decor of the home. Creating a cohesive anchored look in the home is as easy as placing a smaller animal print rug on top of a larger plain rug.  You can complete this look by placing furniture along the edge of the larger rug as in the picture above.

Whether you are looking to spruce up your entryway, living room or bedroom, adding layered rugs to the floor will definitely create a cozy ambiance in your home.  Remember to choose colorful pieces to complete the look and to enhance your decor.  Don’t be afraid to incorporate rugs of different patterns, textures, and sizes in a room or space. This flooring trend can be challenging to master, but the aforementioned tips should have you enjoying a cozy, inviting space in no time.
