Exposed ceiling beams can immediately add warmth and charm to any dull room.  Mostly used in country or beach homes they can also be used, when painted, in more urban rooms.  Either painted or left in natural wood color, its architectural statement even though pretty impressive, is down to earth and relaxed.  We were lucky when we found our home, it came with a room with original beams in the ceiling.  As most of the things in the house they had a very 70’s feel,  they were in natural wood color, the same as the paneling in the room.  I painted them in a dark white paint the same color as the rest of the wood trim around the house.

For any room with no architectural details, exposed beams can be an easy way to add just that missing element that will make that room more interesting.  Real solid beams could be costly but when compared to the permanent architectural difference that it brings to the room, it’s worth every penny.  There is also the less pricey option of faux ceiling beams.

So many different elements combined in this room above, gorgeous wooden bookcases, white painted thin ceiling beams, black and white floor, dark metal furniture and brass… Love it!  The beams in this charming room works as the element that ties all together.

The double-breasted coat is the chicest coat of the season, and Balenciaga hourglass figure coat is perhaps the most coveted one.  Here is a selection of this season’s double-breasted coats from the expensive ones to the alternative ones.

Left corner;  this red, blue, and white virgin wool tweed coat is inspired in the 70’s and is hip-length for an elegant casual look.  For a similar version, this bonded wool jacket is an option.  The second from left; the beautiful Balenciaga hourglass-shape coat is very flattering but it’s on the pricey side, this alternative trench coat doesn’t have the same shape but, it has some similar features like lapel collar, checked fabric and padded shoulders.  Another more similar version is this Pagoda one.  The red oversized tartan wool coat is very fitting for the holidays, on the other hand, is even more expensive than the Balenciaga one.  This one may work.  Last but not least, far right, oversized herringbone wool coat.  An oversized plaid long coat as an option.

Stained cabinets, timeless kitchens

We all love painted cabinets in the kitchen because of how crisp and clean they can look.  Stained cabinets, on the other hand, can also look clean and fresh especially after they are upgraded with white stone, wood washed techniques and beautiful cabinet hardware.  After that, they are not only beautiful, but they are timeless kitchens that will stand the test of times.

If you happen to like traditional design with a modern twist, then you will love these timeless kitchens below.  Each and every one of them has what it takes to make anyone want to reverse their previously painted kitchen cabinets to natural wood color again.  All these kitchen images were found on Pinterest where it is really hard to track the source and credit.  If you happen to be the photographer or designer of one of these kitchens, please leave a comment, and I’ll be happy to credit you.
