Christmas Mantle Decoration: How To Decorate A Shallow Mantle

Decorating your fireplace mantel for Christmas should not be a hassle.  Our mantel is rather a shallow mantel so it requires a little extra effort to decorate and outfitting it for Christmas.  Holiday decorating is super exciting and enjoyable hence it comes as a giving, however, as in any other decorating project, when you lock enough space, you need to pull from the creative box.  These are the simple three steps I followed this year for our Christmas mantle decoration.  Further below, I explain how I was able to get it done even on our shallow  fireplace mantle.

1Pick A Theme

For this year’s holiday decor I drew inspiration from Nature.  Green garlands, antlers, small green Christmas balls, birds and big candles were the only accessories I used on our mantle.  I ditched the lights all together for the mantle garland because I was going for a more organic and simple look since our fireplace mantle is made of stone.

2-Choose A Pallete

Nature has many colors, I picked greens, beige, white and browns.  I wanted to keep the decor simple and restrained and keeping it within less than four hues helped me do that.  This is a simple holiday mantle decor anyone can pull off.

3- Stick To Your Theme And Pallete.

Being firm on your decorating choices and not getting distracted is so important and this applies for any decorating project we have.  It’s so easy to like so many different things of so many different styles and colors that it’s easy to end up with something that we’ll eventually regret.

Above the mantle I hung a Christmas wreath with pinecones on the mirror to which I added a few decorative branches in a whirlly position to give it some movement.  The garland is actually hung from the wall to make it steady.  I placed a few small antlers along together with small Christmas balls in different shades of green.  I placed two medium-sized candles of different heights for visual interest also to give it a romantic touch.  Who doesn’t want romance on Christmas, right?  The two birds are a nod to nature.
