Live Beautiful: Soften Up Your Space With A Skirted Table

Live beautiful is this blog’s most recent post category in which I’ll be posting about how to live beautifully in a more precise way and with details.  Today, we start with how to soften up any space with a skirted table.  Regardless of the shape of the table, round, square, or rectangular covering it with a tablecloth can dramatically transform any space.  From your makeup vanity to the inexpensive table that can serve you as a T.V. stand, they can all be enhanced with a table skirt.

In the case of a T.V. table, for example, the skirt can also hide storage underneath-all that unpleasant but, necessary electric cord, cable boxes, and remotes, can be hidden behind a very tailored, ideally custom-made table skirt.  The design detail can go with any home decor, from traditional to modern.  As a matter of fact, many modern Interior Designers are fans of a skirted table.

A rectangular table is dressed in a brown tablecloth with a greek key trim along the bottom edge.  The use of a skirt on the table softens up the edges of the corners.  Love the contrast of the red on the chairs and the brown — a powerful combination.

An ideal and cost-effective way to add elegance to an entryway is by covering an inexpensive table with a tablecloth.  This one in particular above features a fringe which adds instant glamour to the space.  If you have a big entryway, two skirted tables are better than one.

Red skirted table in Christopher Burch's home

I posted the home of Christopher Burch in the Hamptons two years ago, and I still smile when I look at this photo.  It’s so effortlessly chic.  A round skirted table is set in the middle of the room displaying books and objects; the table can later be used as a game table if needed.  The ottomans around it serve as extra sitting.

Bold and daring.  In this more eclectic, but elegant space, decorator Sam Allen mixed bright colors with chinoiserie influences- green walls, black leather-covered chairs, purple curtains, orange skirt on the round table and chinoiserie mirror.

Tory Burch’s library.  Don’t you love the yellow-painted bookcases contrasting the purple skirt on the table with bullion trim?  I’ve spoken about this fascinating combination before and how good it is. trellis walls, skirted table

In this image, also found on Pinterest, the walls have what it looks like a trellis wallpaper, the floors are painted.  The round table with paneled tablecloth brings a great contrast against the French empire metal chair.

In a more country aesthetic, a skirted table can still look great.
