Seven Stylish Faux Fur Coat

I absolutely love the classic style of Margot in the Royal Tenenbaums, more specifically, her fur coat and Kelly bag, although in this picture she is actually holding a Birkin.  As much as I love the allure of a fur coat, I have a conscious which I try to feed every day on mostly good stuff, so a real fur coat is not an option for me.  Full disclosure, I have a vintage fur vest that I purchased more than ten years ago from a Sunday flea market in the streets of New York City.  Ten years later and I’m thinking of a faux fur coat which in some cases can provide the allure and classic style of a real fur coat without making you feel guilty.

While looking for one that looks as realistic as possible, I found this one.  For a more glamorous and colorful version of a faux fur coat, an oversized one will do just fine.  A faux fur coat with the name teddy in it is pretty adorable.  A leopard-print faux fur coat for the very brave ones.  A very chic chocolate color one for a glamorous night.  A short light pink one for the day.  And finally a black one for the days when we only want to wear black.

Modern bathroom, Jack and Jill bathroom, Julie Paulino Design

I finally can act on my promise of sharing with you some of the improvements we’ve done in the house.  I wanted to create for our son a modern bathroom which was also timeless, in which he will eventually grow without getting tired of it.  This house was built in the early 70’s, so when we bought it, it was stuck in that period.  Lucky for us, the previous owners didn’t update it.  Everything from lousy wood paneling, even worse looking wallpaper in many of the rooms, red tile floors, small and crowded kitchen was what enchanted me.  No, I’m not losing it, I’m just an Interior Designer who loves to make spaces purely personal, and who also likes challenges.  Where others see obstacles, I see endless possibilities.

The construction of the house is a very good one, and everything the previous owners chose in their home was in the respective time, of good quality as well, but they never updated anything.  To their defense, at least there was no linoleum flooring.  I want to warn you that the slideshow below has before pictures.  They may be hurtful to look at, but we all love a good before and after.

Basements are usually the last room in the house homeowners take care of.  They are usually designated for storage or laundry areas; I’m guilty of the last one.  In our previous home, we kept the laundry in the basement permanently.  Nonetheless, real estate market experts say that finishing a basement in your home is one of the home improvements that offer a better return on investment than even adding square footage.  ” The amount of return is directly proportional to the grade of materials. When finishing a basement, for instance, wall-to-wall carpeting and drywall will bring a lot more than cheap paneling and a drop-in ceiling.” Elle Decor

Basement conversions have become very popular in recent years, providing an in-home expansion opportunity for properties that are unsuited to the more conventional attic conversion.  This is a practice that seems set to continue, as more and more people become aware of how practical and genuinely pleasant a basement conversion can be.

button-front skirt 1

Button-front skirt is the chicest clothing piece at the moment.  Perhaps it’s the retro vibe that speaks to the 70’s fashion-obsessed inside me or the fact that almost every fashion brand has produced one within the past year.  From classic mini skirts by Balmain with its recognizable front buttons to the below the knee checked midi skirt with transparent buttons by Balenciaga this Fall, the button-front skirt will give you that polished architectural look we all want sometimes.  It’s a fact that button-front skirts are not coming in denim fabric anymore; instead, they come in all kinds of materials and textures that gives us the freedom to use them any time of the year.

The canopy bed is custom-made by Carole Gratale.

This glamorous bedroom designed by Michael S. Smith, one of my favorite designers, is a product of a long-term relationship between clients and Interior Designer.  Smith has designed more than 12 residences for the homeowners in the span of 25 years.  After a five year long renovation, which involved joining two previously separate apartments, the result is a beauty in every form with a mixture of refined old world and modernity.  The interior design in the bedroom, as well as in the rest of the house is out of the box and without matchy-matchy.  “ There are many high points, but not everything is at full volume.  Overall, the apartment is serene and quiet, not jumpy.” Michael S. Smith.  You can see the rest of this spectacular home at Architectural Digest.
