I know that homes featured in magazines need to be stylized for photo shoots and many times bookcases in those homes end up looking more like a fantasy than real functional bookcases. I personally prefer to store my books by subject rather than by color, although I have to admit I’m more interested in proportions. For instance, I dislike to see a short book next to a tall book. Some people go as far as to cover their books with matching paper, not sure how they find a book when they need it. Happily for me, I’ve been spotting more real-looking bookcases in magazines. I hope real display, like the ones in these images below, become a trend in magazines. After all what is a real home for, if not for everyday convenient-living?

I am with you 100%. Perfectly styled bookcases look nice, but I prefer a little style in the company of a LOT of practical organization.

In my mind, there can never be too many bookcases – or books!! Wonderful picks!

Hi, Julia!
I love bookcases.
The house shown in the second image belongs to a brazilian couple living in Mew York.
Love the white bookcase, the white floors and the rustic table with those so contemporary chairs, really great.
Have a nice weekend.

I style my books by subject first then by size much like you, it would drive me crazy by colour. I agree the styled book cases lately are more real to life and use and it is refreshing it breaks up the static of the by colour I was seeing.
