On my three visits to Spain, I did not get to visit Palma de Mallorca, which is on my bucket list. But then again, so is Croatia and Sveti Stefan and I can’t keep track at this point. I wonder if there is ever anyone who can ever complete his or her bucket list? Now that I learned Jacques Grange has designed Hotel Mama in Mallorca, it only reinforces my desire to visit that part of the world and lose myself in enjoying fresh grilled gambas and drinking cortaditos after. Among Jacques Grange’s luxury hospitality portfolio are The Mark Hotel in New York City and Palazzo Margherita in Italy. The designer’s latest hotel project is housed in a 19th-century building in a style that combines, French, Italian and American furniture. The hotel also has a Japanese restaurant. Sounds like a good idea. Images via Hotel Mama.
Raise your hand if you haven’t ever gotten the travel bug… after you come from a vacation? In my case, everywhere I go I wish i had a house there and every time I come back from a vacation my first thought is, you guessed it… where to go next…? One of my dreams is to charter a private boat, get family and friends on board and sail away for days. Doing nothing but enjoy fresh caught fish, drink rose and let those who like to swim swim at their leisure… While in St. Tropez, we had breakfast at one of the cafes across the marina and I couldn’t help admiring a family that was taking their breakfast out on their deck of their mega yacht… very fabulous indeed… One, perhaps less expensive way to get to live this dream is staying at one of those fabulous hotels with private boats.
Hotels know what luxury travelers like… they are looking for one of a kind experience such as sailing around the Greek islands in your own private boat… or sailing around the Aegean sea on board of a very Mediterranean Blue Voyage… Any style that feeds your fancy… These hotels with private boats are as luxurious as they can be because they mostly have old boats with all the charm and elegance of old days travel…
8 Fabulous Hotels with Private Boats…
When traveling to one of the most dynamic and fast paced cities in the world like New York City, I’m sure guests would appreciate staying in a hotel that feels like a home rather than a hotel. Tim and Kit Kemp, founders of Firmdale Hotels are known for their layered and cozy atmosphere they bring to their hotels. The Whitby Hotel located in the heart of Upper Midtown Manhattan, is the couple’s second Hotel in New York City, after The Crosby Street Hotel in SoHo. The 86 bedrooms and suites were designed by Firmdale Hotel’s design director Kit Kemp in her characteristic English style. Each room in The Whitby Hotel has its own color scheme, floor to ceiling windows, a great feature in any New York City space where light seems to be missing in Winter. Bathrooms are in either marble or granite with a free standing bath tub. I’ve seen a few pictures of the hotel bar and restaurant with its rich saturated upholstery and high ceilings. Definitely, The Whitby Hotel a place to go and feel cozy in.
If you are a regular at Instagram then without a doubt you’ve seen the Pink monochromatic restaurant, The Gallery at Sketch, designed by India Mahdavi with artwork from British artist Turner Prize nominee David Shrigley. Shrigley’s recognizable drawings are also present in Sketch’s original ceramic tableware which can be purchased via the restaurant’s website. The Restaurant which also functions as a gallery, hence its name, has velvet pink banquets and Mahdavi’s emblematic curvaceous chairs that seem to float over chevron multi-colored tiles. Reminiscent of the all-time Hollywood glam era, the pink room is accentuated with touches of rose gold throughout. The mixture of the artwork and the exquisite design makes it a perfect place for Art and Design enthusiasts.
Architect and Designer India Mahdavi’s work is as popular as it gets. Named by Architectural Digest as “the reigning queen of color” for her use of bold colors in her projects. She attributes her boldness to her international upbringing. She was born in Tehran and raised in America, Germany, and France. Hotel Thoumieux in Paris is also presenting one of her creations. We’ve been in New York City for more than a week now and I feel totally home and happy. But, since it’s a completely normal thing to be happy where you are and still think about being somewhere else I’m thinking about Europe. And so this Hotel HamYard Hotel in London showed up in a magazine last week and judging by the pictures and the location, the chic Soho area in London, looks like a place cool enough to stay. The Hotel belongs to the Firmdale Hotels and if it looks to you like the Crosby Street Hotel it’s because they are brothers from the same mother. The designer responsible for all these beautiful layers of coziness and beauty is Kit Kemp and her husband the same couple that designed The Crosby Street Hotel. Enjoy!
