The old French technique of wall mural paint, where the final effect is a monochromatic tone in different shades of grey, dark and light, is as old as it gets.  Reinvented or discovered during the Renaissance as a form of a more affordable painting technique, perhaps also due to limited color options that were available for painting, it’s been reinvented in forms of wallpaper, posters and panel screens.  Its monochromatic tone makes it a perfect background for all kinds of decor style, from modern to traditional.  I love it with a dash of color furniture for a more contrasting and modern effect and when enhanced with a touch of brass it is simply harmoniously gorgeous.

It’s interesting to see how sometimes a home becomes sort of like the opposite of its owner personal fashion style.  Ines de la Fressange‘s Paris home is an example of this with its trademark pink walls and very feminine side that stand apart from her more masculine fashion style.   A very bohemian laid back atmosphere.

Pink is the color most often associated with love, beauty, charm, politeness, sensitivity,
tenderness, sweetness, childhood, and the romantic.-Wikipedia.  A.K.A Femininity.  Others describe it as having the elements of compassion, nurture and love.  All qualities associated with mother love.  Put more red in it and it takes a more passionate connotation.  I’m a big fan of neutral decors, you know the kind that you need when you have a family with mostly men in it.  Nevertheless, every time I look at a bouquet of pink peonies or neoclassical building painted in pink, I can’t help but have a soothing happy feeling.  Coincidentally Pantone’s 2016 Color of the Year is Rose Quartz and Serenity, a softer pink combined with Serenity.  Enjoy

Storing hats properly will depend on the type of hats you have.  Yesterday’s post about Maison Michel hats reminded me that I have a few hats piled up in the closet with no proper storage.  Even when I tried to put one into each other there is always one that gets all squished up.  The straw hats may be the easiest ones to store by hanging them on the walls or racks but the more delicate ones, the ones that require maintaining their shape need a better way of storage.  Here are a few clever ways to display hats and how to properly store them.  Enjoy!
