One of the things I find most admirable in a designer is individuality.  How unique and innovative he or she is. You won’t find many designers copying those that are very unique, especially when it comes to accessories either for homes or fashion.  That’s one of the many reasons I love French Interiors.  Either traditional or modern design the overall result is about the person’s own life and way of living.  A style is about the entire lifestyle, the way you dress, eat, travel, shop, think and everything you do in life encompasses your lifestyle.  And since Chic is in the details and one detail for home decor is side tables, here is a round up of French and Modern Side Tables for your inspiration. Enjoy!

beacon hill interior design

This beautiful brownstone designed by Nina Farmer is located in the chic and classic neighborhood of Beacon Hill in Boston.  Surprisingly I came across this house while at a cafe in Istanbul, where by law every cafe should have a reading section.  It was featured in House Beautiful Turkey.  The decor throughout is refined and eclectic with a few masculine furniture pieces.  My favorite area is the entryway which Nina converted into the dining room.  The walls and ceiling are painted in one uniform grey color, the ceiling itself is a magnificent work of art with a center skyline with a sputnik chandelier.  The brownstone seems to be very roomy due to the size of the kitchen that fits a big island and a spacious work area.  Enjoy!

Designer Pietro Russo restored this beautiful home in Milan for his brother and family.  The home dates back to the early 20’s and it has beautiful features that Russo didn’t change.  Beautiful Bay and arched windows and heavy carved ceilings are some of those details.  Carved wooden doors and ornate ceiling juxtapose with modern glamorous furniture.  The overall result is an eclectic but sophisticated style where the ornate blends effortlessly with the modern in a glamorous way. Pietro designed most of furniture in his home, such as the floor to ceiling shelf that also works as a divider, and the dining table.  Pietro Russo, besides being a designer is also a painter a ceramist artist and with a degree in scenic design has worked on film sets.  A very multi talented designer.

Terry de Gunzburg apartment by Jacques Grange via belle vivir blog

Terry de Gunzburg  founder of make-up line By Terry sought the help of Interior Designer and friend Jacques Grange to help her design her New York City apartment.  Terry and her husband Jean de Gunzburg are serious collectors but not the customary kind.  Their home is far from a minimalist white open space.  The apartment is located in a prewar construction building that has gracious spacious rooms that they have furnished with Art Deco furniture, modern classic pieces as Alexander Calder mobile and a jaw dropping art collection acquired
over the past 20 years.  Damien Hirst, Francis Bacon and other impressive pieces are living in such a natural and effortlessly elegant way that only Jacques Grange is capable of accomplishing.

Giambattista Vali Apartment in Paris fire place next to funky chair

Giambattista Valli‘s Apartment in Paris is nothing conventional.  It’s decorated with unique pieces of furniture that contrast perfectly with the traditional interior architecture of a traditional Paris apartment.   Herringbone floors and very ornate crown molding are constantly present throughout, while the furniture is more on the modern side apart from the red Oriental antique bed that seems to be used as a form of sitting.
