If you think all ballerinas live in a loft in Soho with bars on the walls and leather sofas then you may be mistaken.  This beautiful 4,700 sf apartment at the Dakota building in New York City proves that nothing further than that concept.  This ballerina apartment abounds with color on the walls, hand painted de Gournay wallpaper, sumptuous crystal chandeliers and a four poster mirrored bed just to mention a few of its proving points.  The overall atmosphere in this apartment is a refined and feminine space with a mélange of 50’s and 70s pieces enveloped in jewel colors.  The unique design of the space is the work of Interior Designer Sasha Bikoff.

Jenna Lyons's Brooklyn Brownstone, living room with rifeplace and masculine leather sofas after via belle vivir blog

I’m sure everybody who reads Interior Design blogs have seen Jenna Lyons’s Brooklyn Brownstone.  Jenna is J Crew’s Creative Director and her Brooklyn Heights apartment is probably the most blogged about ever.  It graced the cover of Domino Magazine more than once and the yellow sofa over the Moroccan rug and the black bedroom were one of the few unique design elements in Jenna’s home that kept many yearning for more and replicating them over and over again.  The apartment was put up for sale soon after Jenna’s divorce leading to a bidding war probably due to the Brownstone popularity.  The couple winning the bid was Tracy Martin and Vince Clarke, both in the music industry.  The new owners enlisted the help of the Interior Design firm Roman and Williams to create a home that reflects their own lifestyle and aesthetics.  The result is a maximalist brownstone that seems to have been there for a long time.  A much mature version of its kind. decorating with metal/gilt palm trees
A Palm-Tree Floor Lamp in a Beatriz Silveira design.

With an aura that reckons the glamorous decor of The Hollywood Regency era these brass trees make their way into today’s interiors bringing prestige to any type of home decor style.  Sometimes these gilt trees are floor lamps as in the case of Daphne Guinness’s home where a 1950’s Jansen palm-tree floor lamp graces the entry.  In other cases however they are simply decorating pieces as in the Hell’s Kitchen apartment of Cathy Lerebours, which I helped decorate.  She found the gilt palm-tree at an auction.  Take a look below at some homes with metal trees as decorating objects.
