Steven Gambrel Kitchen Design via belle vivir blog

Steven Gambrel is an Architect so therefore it’s no surprise that his interiors are so opulent, elegant and full of architectural details.   This kitchen takes my breath away and gives it back to me with the use of Indian mica as backsplash? or is that mother of pearl?  Even fancier!  The island is designed to look as a free standing piece of furniture, while the detail of the decorative hinges brings out the brown in the striped marble top.  One very characteristic touch in Steven Gambrel’s design is the use of nail head in his custom made furniture.  Very Architectonic!

When I saw this kitchen the first thing that caught my eye were the ceiling pendants.  Designed by Tom Dixon they are actually made of a type of plastic with a metalised copper mirror finish, which are available here.  This kitchen gives me the impression that it’s been lived-in by two owners with two completely different tastes where the second one added the warm side to it.  Everything from the island, which can also work as a separator and as an occasional buffet table, to the copper ceiling pendants and the Herman Miller molded plastic side chairs could have been the clever touch to jazz up this open, no-upper-cabinet kitchen.

Banquet in kitchen design via belle vivir blog

Our functional and custom kitchen banquette is one of the spaces in our home that we enjoy the most.  We surf the web, color with Lucas, eat, have our coffee in the morning, you name it.  I think a custom kitchen banquette is one of he most functional features anyone can incorporate in their kitchen design.  Not only does it offer a lot more space for seating than individual chairs but it also instantly warms up any space.  All these images of kitchens with custom banquettes are absolutely beautiful but my favorite is the very first one because of all those slick antique-looking iron windows, the adorable French mattress (a post coming up on this by the way),  and the accessibility to the banquette itself.   Enjoy!

Love the vintage vibe in this part of a kitchen? It’s imperfect yet so real and cozy.  This look is accomplished by accumulating what you love and dare to live with them in the open.  Lots of charm!

I keep on gravitating towards romantic-looking kitchens lately.  Who can blame me when it’s about a beautiful kitchen like this one though…?  Full of plants, pots of flowers surprising you in every corner, warm green cabinets and tall up-to-ceiling windows, it’s beyond charming!  I can imagine myself sitting on the counter top, yes you read that right, looking out the window while enjoying my afternoon coffee…
