happy thanksgiving

We can all easily have hundreds of things to choose from to be grateful for.  Just that fact makes this day and every day even more worthy.  I for all and for most am grateful for my family, especially my healthy good-hearted son, my supporting and loving husband, my angel mother, and my devoted sister.  I’m also very grateful for my friends because without them life would be very boring and discouraging.  As a reminder of a few of those things to be grateful for, here are five.

Best rustic kitchen, Amber Interiors

From rustic to colorful, these are the 10 best kitchens of 2019.  As it is usually the case every year, there were many beautiful and functional kitchens, however, some of them really stood out from the rest.  I read somewhere that pewter and gunmetal finishes were predicted to be trends this year, yet we didn’t get to see many of them.  As you’ll see in most of these popular kitchens, brass fixtures are still reigning sovereignty.

Best Colorful Kitchen best kitchen of 2019, Heidi Caillier

This colorful kitchen is small but it’s full of style and substance, plenty of storage, stone floor, and the right-sized island.  The brass hardware and fixtures work as a jewel against the blue cabinets- design by Heidi Caillier.

Best Country Style Kitchenbest kitchen of 2019. country kitchen Jacques Erasmus

I imagine that if I were to live in the countryside and owned a couple of horses this would be the kitchen I wanted.  This country-style kitchen has a great balance between rustic and refinement.  The detail of the baskets below the metal island softens up the brick floor.  The home of Jacques Erasmus.

I know I just came back from Paris and I shouldn’t be thinking about traveling right now, but no one says you can’t dream.  I’ve been wanting to rent a villa together with friends somewhere in Europe, in either France or Italy, for a while and when I come across a photo of this gorgeous villa in Sicily yesterday I couldn’t help but dream.  Villa Valguarnera is according to Conde Nast traveler, the most romantic hideaway in Sicily.  I totally agree and you probably will too once you see the images of this stunning villa.

Villa Valguarnera appears to have stopped in time with dilapidated walls that make the villa feel like a remnant of a very glamorous era.  And in fact, it is, albeit part of it dark.  In the 17th century, Sicily was the preferred summer retreat of Palermo nobility then after World War II, the area became a Mafia base.  Today the villa belongs to Princess Vittoria Alliata di Villafranca, her many-times-over-great grandmother built the villa in the 18th century.

It has finally started to feel like Autumn, and I’m feeling moody saturated colors typical of Fall: deep reds, moss green, browns, and black are a few of the colors I’m looking for.  Enjoy your beginning of Fall.

recycling, composting

It’s all about saving our planet.  Unfortunately, our current climate crisis puts us in a situation where we must find a way to reduce the pollutants that fossil fuel companies are releasing into the atmosphere as well as limiting our personal contributions to our landfills.  As our population continues to grow, the implication of every individual carbon footprint is impacting the future of our planet.  Luckily, we are continually educating ourselves about earth-friendly methods of responsible sustainability where we can adjust our lifestyles and contribute to a more environmentally conscious society.  Recycling and composting are great ways we can contribute to the healing and future growth of our planet.
