I’m so happy that I’m taking off tomorrow to Paris for a week with a couple of girlfriends.  I’m in need of some serious distraction these days and this is the perfect excuse.  As I’m sure you understand, the posts this week will be spare and light for the reason that when you are in Paris you have no other option than submerging yourself in the City of Light.  You can always follow me on Instagram where I’ll be posting places and discoveries along.  au revoir!Jean Touitou apartment Paris apartment

“If you want to be trendy, in the end you lose,” says Touitou to WSJ.  “My design has been uncorrupted for 30 years.”  Jean Touitou founded A.P.C. the eponymous fashion brand in Paris.  The clothing line is characterized by its clean aesthetic.   Although the apartment has minimalistic design the result is warm and inviting.  Much in part for the for the space blond elm paneling.  When we think of a paneling Parisian apartment, the first image that comes to mind is a more traditional ornate paneling but it’s also important to look a different interpretations of classic design.  This is a great interpretation of modern and traditional design which in this case is executed in a very unique way as well.  Just take a look at the laundry room, below for a lesson on subdued elegance.

I love books.  I’m guilty of simultaneously reading two and three books at once.  Although I’m quite diverse in my choices- my bookcases are filled with anything from books about adaptogens to the Zohar.  As a designer, I have, of course, a preference for design books, and Autumn is the month when many design books are released.  So October is essentially Christmas for style and design aficionados.  I already have received a couple of these books, and each one of them is more inspiring than the last one.

Climate change, ocean change

Today officially starts Autumn, but it feels more like a humid summer.  Our planet is warming up at an alarming rate and, the truth is, we can’t just say climate change is happening and leave it at that and not do anything about it and go on with our lives as if it doesn’t affect us.  Failing to act to save our planet, even when we believe in climate change, does not make us any different from someone who is denying this fact.  At the end of the day, the consequences are the same.  Ever since the beginning, our planet has gone through a few climate changes, only that the last time was 7,000 years ago.  The current climate change we are experiencing right now is happing at an unprecedented rate, and 95% is as a result of human activities.  What are you willing to do to preserve our planet?  What steps are you taking to reduce your footprint in our ecosystem?  If as mothers, we can’t even answer our children’s questions about why our planet is changing, how are we ever going to face them in the future if we fail to act?

Evidence reveals that current warming is occurring roughly ten times faster than the average rate of ice-age-recovery warming… Global sea levels rose about 8 inches in the last century.  The rate in the last two decades, however, is nearly double that of the previous century and is accelerating slightly every year… source.

I don’t wake up until I get to have my espresso in the morning.  My coffee station in my kitchen is my sanctuary hence, besides having all the props to prep my coffee without having to move one step, I make sure there is always something pretty to make me smile in the mornings.  Complementary things such as flowers, ceramics, or a beautiful decorative sugar jar are a few of my favorite details to make my coffee station more motivational.
