We’ve been having a great and relaxed time, thank you for your beautiful wishes. I promise I’ll be returning emails next week. Our days have been full of early coffee, strolls around charming downtown areas and gorgeous and romantic sunsets. Just what I needed. I, of course, have already visited The Hampton Designers Showhouse and have lots of images for you next week. Pure delight! I am posting from my iPad and I can’t upload any images to the blog (don’t think there is even a way or an app). But I had these more than appropriate images of blue and white rooms somewhere in the bottom of my blog’s draft and thought they would be great as an improvised postcard. See you next week!

I have the below bathroom image designed by Windsor Smith in my inspirational board for a while and when the opportunity to renovate Lucas’/guest bathroom came I wanted to create a similar nautical feel but with a more global atmosphere while considering our adult guests.  While searching for another project a few months ago I came across this fantastic antique brass half moon sconce (above) and I haven’t been able to take it out of my mind so I knew this was the time for me to squeeze it in somehow.  The wallpaper is Kattie Ridder’s although it’s not the final color.   I’m planning to use it on two walls of the bathroom while the rest of the walls will be covered from floor to ceiling with 8×8 white porcelain tiles.  If I don’t get to use it due to the fact that the bathtub is going to be also a shower, then I’ll stencil something similar.  On the floor I decided to go with white penny tiles with a blue border around the room.  The mirror (not exactly the one pictured) will be inside a big wall niche above the sink console which is going to be custom made to fit the space.  I don’t really believe all hardware in a bathroom have to be from the same design or finish for that matter, that’s why I’m using two different styles of bathroom fixtures and in this case even two different finishes.  Edwardian bathtub faucet in polished nickel and one single whole faucet for the sink in antique brass to complement the sconce and the Ralph Lauren marine porthole ceiling fixture.  For more conservative people this may not even be in question but if I don’t wear a matching suit everyday why should my bathroom

I love the creativity touch of the ship’s helm and that little penguin, how adorable is he?

Love the vintage vibe in this part of a kitchen? It’s imperfect yet so real and cozy.  This look is accomplished by accumulating what you love and dare to live with them in the open.  Lots of charm!

It’s one exciting thing working with a client but it’s an even more fulfilling experience when you work with a client who is knowledgeable and has great taste (she covered her foyer in David Hicks’s hexagon wallpaper- that is how tasteful she is!).  When I sold the Potalla fabric here at my blog I had no idea I was going to end up working the fabric into its final state.  In this case my client wanted to make seat covers for her existing chairs and I think they look gorgeous, young and modern.   We also made the window treatments for the living room and the nursery room.  My seamstress, who has been my friend for more than 10 years is a perfectionist and her work is immaculate.  As you can see below, two separate windows in the living room where the panels are so well detailed and calculated that every geometric pattern of the Victoria Hagan fabric is aligned.

Attic bedroom ideas with voulted ceiling via belle vivir blog

Attic rooms can be difficult to get right sometimes due to how tight the spaces tend to be.  Pointed ceilings can be overpowering, making the whole process even harder.  Of course all these rooms are a lot bigger than most regular attics but they make for great examples of how fantastic an attic room can look.  All these spaces have in common light colored ceilings that make them soothing and beautiful with precisely the right amount of furniture.   Jordana Brewster’s home (third from top) via In Style Magazine shows a great use of space by keeping the furniture slick and to a minimum.  Enjoy!
