Joseph Dirand describes his new Paris apartment as “Ornamental Minimalism”. As always in any Joseph Dirand’s creation, the craftmanship is front and center. Take a look at his previous apartment here. “I create space with equilibrium and a classic base.” Yet “there are details and compositions,” he told AD. The spacious apartment has breathtaking views of Paris while in the interior sumptuous stones and unique marbles embellish much of the surfaces.

I recently read somewhere that decorating is about self-respect, your environment reflects what you “think of yourself” so surround yourself with the best you can afford.  It’s often said that we only get one chance to make a good impression?  In this case, though, there are many opportunities to doing it right, meaning that we have infinite chances to make our homes the best and most we can.  Our surroundings define our moods so why not make that work for us daily?
The best part of implementing these decorating tips to boost your mood is that they won’t cost you much.

Axel-Vervoordt-betty-gertz-living-room

Axel Vervoordt is one of the most acclaimed and recognized International Interior Designer. Many people are praising his latest featured project, Kim and Kanye’s home which is a rampant difference from Betty Gertz’s home in Dallas. I personally think that the rapper’s home is not the place I would like to raise children in. I humbly think that Axel Vervoordt’s best designs are those done before he turned so minimalist case in point, this inviting, and timeless home he designed for Betty Gertz featured back in 2015 in AD. Many of his best design elements can be seen throughout, especially the big Wabi-Sabi influence with the use of organic materials, quality craftsmanship and neutral muted tones.

We can all appreciate the natural and organic texture of rattan. Rattan pieces are more available than ever before. From lighting fixtures to fashionable summer bags made of the natural material. Catching up with its popularity, companies are coming up with more and more rattan products and due to the nature and simplicity of the material, it facilitates for reasonably priced decorative pieces. Although I mostly prefer the charm of vintage rattan pieces instead of new ones, I appreciate the variety and abundance of rattan products available today.

mudroom by Julie Paulino Design

Every homeowner dreams of a big mudroom where family members can walk into.  The bigger the family the more the need for a functional and utilitarian mudroom.  When we purchased this home, there was a spacious room in the back of the kitchen with no washer and dryer and an empty wall.  As an Interior Designer, I immediately figured out how to utilize the room better.  I was also able to take some of that room to expand the kitchen.  I’m aware that not everyone has the necessary space to create the ideal mudroom but don’t you fret, you can still have a designated area that can function not only as a mudroom but also as a focal point.
