I know, I know, you’ve seen this kitchen a few times already but when I received my T Magazine on Saturday I knew this was going to be the kitchen of this week.  The patina all over it is like that of a well lived-in French country kitchen but in Soho, New York.  It kind of reminds me of horses and saddles.  Olatz Schnabel, the world famous super model, designer and entrepreneur and ex of Julian Schnabel is the owner and designer of this kitchen and her travels around the world come across every detail.

The bathroom makes me go ‘whoa!!’ And, The openness of it would make many people nervous Especially those who are only comfortable with the regular alcove closed in shower -because it’s a very predictable world out there, let’s keep it like that- This is a bathroom for people who think outside the box.  Love the all checkered black and white tiles.  Give me more, please!

This delicious kitchen designed by Tommy Smythe, co-host of Sarah’s house is very much like a perfect dessert where the red vintage lantern plays the role of a cherry on the cake.  Tommy revamped a  classic Victorian home in what he calls the new “Victorian look” and I can see why.  Painting the molding kitchen cabinets with three very traditional colors, paneling the ceiling and using red throughout is a genius way to modernize the Victorian style.  The beautiful floor is painted in a Roman style geometric pattern.  That custom made range hood, how handsome with that gleaming brass accent!

This kitchen has all the thoughtful details, from the gray grouts between the ceiling-high subway tiles that gives it an older feel to the brackets under the cabinets that add more Victorian ornamentation to the style.

A kitchen with a sitting area like this is not an average one.  I love how Tommy used black wood instead of an old-looking and Victorian era mahogany color.  The chair and tufted red sofa make a nod to Victorian style as well, but in a very updated way.  The floor to ceiling tiles add another beautiful layer.

Thank you Kate at Design Sponge for posting Lucas’s bathroom renovation yesterday.  If you would like to know how I did it, hop over there and take a look.  Thank you Kate!

From industrial necklaces to industrial sinks in the kitchen.  Somehow, the relationship is there because in these kitchens sinks are not only functional but they play the role of accessories as well, lending the kitchens a feeling of old and well lived.  Not something anyone would look forward to in fashion though.

Absolutely adore the use of different tile sizes in this kitchen.  The faucet looks like a very cool mess, is like a sculpture on its own.  The honey black marble counter picks up the light gray grout.  Love the aged chrome handles.

White floor to ceiling subway tiles with a black or navy blue penny border make this narrow space a lot bigger.  In this butler pantry, the space above the industrial sink is smartly used with wine racks.

This kitchen from Traditional Home magazine is more on the dressy side than anything industrial, but the sink is and so is the faucet, which kind of makes it  a bit country.  Very lovely and charmy!

The faucets… to live for!  Stainless steel heaven!

The Kitchen of this week is a no brainer.  It only needs a quick glance to love it; designed by Celerie Kemble, it has a modest-glam meets bare-foot-beach-walk feel.  The distressed wood of the island paired with the brass of the hardware and faucets raise my heart beat a notch.
I’ll take off to enjoy a very rainy weekend, from what it seems.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Update: A lovely reader emailed me and informed me that this kitchen was designed by Emery & Cie. I once posted about their very unique and exotic inventory way back.  They have stores in many cities in Europe.   Thank you!

When there is larger than life ceilings there is for sure splendid.  I came across this magnificent kitchen over the weekend and I couldn’t wait to share it with you.  Don’t know much about it, only that it’s a Scandinavian Kitchen and I would say that apart from the stove being funnily small in scale the whole ambiance has a lot of provenance.  The Morovian Star Pendant does give the height of the ceiling much more credit and the adorable sconces are almost unnoticeable but that is part of what makes this kitchen feel charmingly old.  The incredible European tiles change from green to blue, surprising you and tying the predominant green to the less used blue tiles above the stove.  Enjoy!

Talking about Morovian Start Lighting, isn’t this antique one amazing?  Available at Antiques Associates.

white kitchen with white stove and with island and pot racks above,

Pot rack is very functional way of organizing your cookware.  Usually found in more traditional style kitchens it could also be used in transitional kitchen styles.  Whether is for space reasons or for design effect hanging your pots on a rack above the kitchen island or above the stove is useful, beautiful and classic.  Pot racks in kitchens can also be a great way of displaying collections for example not only pots and pans can be hung from it but also ceramics and kitchen utensils.  If you are looking for inspiration below you can find a few pictures of kitchens displaying cookware on racks.  I have my pots in a Lazy Susan in a lower corner cabinet which is pretty convenient I shall say.  My chic copper collection however, enjoys a far better place in my built in book case above my kitchen banquette and I love to see them in the open everyday.  Here are a few images with beautiful pots hanging from pot racks.  Enjoy!

This is a very big island that functions as bookshelf and storage.  The way the pots frame the pendants is aesthetically pleasing as well as functional.

Having everything in hand is an essential part of good living.  Spices above the stove and olive oils in reach is a must for me.  I also believe in breaking your kitchen into small spaces.  A section for coffee for instance.  It doesn’t need to be a whole station with integrated coffee maker or anything that fancy, by only assigning a tray with sugar, coffeemate or cream next to a regular coffee maker will make life easier and your mornings more enjoyable.
