I miss the flexibility that living in Europe provides. The ease of traveling throughout the vicinity countries and getting to experience first-hand the beauty of its cities. The tiniest unknown of towns will impress you with its own beauty and authenticity. La Bastide de Gordes is located in its namesake town, in the Luberon region of the South of France.
Gordes is one of Provence’s prettiest hilltop villages, one of those magical villages that can immediately take you back in time. Dominated by its magnificent medieval castle and the Saint-Firmin church, characterized by its peasant past as well as the splendors of sixteenth-century nobility, it’s easy to lose yourself in the cobbled alleyways that wind between the towering houses made from dry stone.
La Bastide de Gordes is housed in a 12th-century series of stone, historic buildings. After being renovated a couple of years ago, the chateau graciously blends the old with the new, with a fantastic art collection, chevron parquet floors, walls covered in toile, beautiful paneling, and antiques make part of the beautiful interior spaces. Arguably the best part of the chateau is the breathtaking view. The stone building is perched on the edge of a sheer drop looking out across a ravine dotted with picturesque farms of such hazy Provencal perfectness, you’ll feel you are looking at a painting. The grounds are laid out with an award-winning succession of terraces that come landscaped with poplars, olive-trees and box hedges. La Bastide de Gordes belongs to Airelles Collection.
