As much as I don’t guide my design choices by trends, it’s important to stay abreast of them. Especially, kitchen trends, because we all know that kitchens are the center of the home. That’s where we go in the morning to have our coffee, to prep our kids’ breakfast and on occasions to cook for friends. The best about this 2019 kitchen trend is that it’s a classic revival, yes you read that right. These are the kinds of trends I like, those that won’t feel outdated in a few years. Afterall every design choice we put into our kitchen is an investment, and they can’t be taken lightly.

Half-Wall Backsplash
Previous years, it was all about bringing the backsplash all the way to the ceiling. This new trend limits the backsplash to a few inches above the countertop. It can be done using many different kinds of materials from veined marble surfaces, subway tiles, or even wood planks. Regardless of using upper cabinets or not, the backsplash covers a half-wall providing a look as if it were unfinished. See below, different examples of how it can be done.

This is an excellent example of how to make this trend into something functional and fun. Continue the same stone as the countertop to the backsplash and shelving and use of shelf for decorative objects or even mirror.
