I was perusing interior design images a few days ago and noticed that the most beautiful home libraries didn’t shy away from color. Even in houses where the rest of the interior was prominently white, the studies were surprisingly rich in deep colors, perhaps because of the coziness and regal feeling that rich colorful rooms provide. In this case no better place for those characteristics to existing than in the intimacy of a home library.  Nothing says cozy more than a warm home library, especially it has a fireplace.  The most formal ones can have panelings and custom built-in bookcases and the most daring ones dazzle in bold colors and sophisticated furniture.   Below, a few of the most beautiful home libraries I’ve seen lately. Enjoy!

I love the black and red bookcases contrasting the pale green walls in this home library.

Joseph Dirand's home via belle vivir

Joseph Dirand‘s home in the Seventh Arrondissement in Paris was recently renovated by the sought-after Architect and the result is a minimalist apartment with perfectly restored traditional French details.  The furniture in Dirand’s home is all form and substance.  In the living room, sofa and side chairs are Pierre Jeanneret, in the kitchen the family eats at a Ettore Sottsass table, in the bedroom an Oscar Niemeyer chair looks graciously at the bed.  As most French, Joseph Dirand relies on excellent craftsmanship to restore the neglected into its past glory.  For his home, Joseph decided on simple stucco walls, Versailles parquet floors and simple wall moldings inspired by 17th century Interior Architecture.

Kopenhagen Fur office designed by Helle Flou
The Kopenhagen Fur office designed by Helle Flou is an example of how well the clean lines of modern furniture work inside old Interior Architecture.  The Kopenhagen Fur building dates back to 1835 hence so many neoclassical features.  Gilded french doors, delicate wall moldings and beautifully ornate crown molding are some of the old design details Helle preserved.   The choice of black and dark mahogany wood furniture contrasts ideally with the rest of the bright space.

Balmain Paris Store designed by Joseph Dirand via belle vivir

One thing is to decorate homes where families live but a whole different thing is to translate a Fashion brand into a commercial space.  The fabulous Balmain store in Paris was designed by Architect Joseph Dirand and the space, besides being one that translates French perfect art craft in the best way possible is one that I’m sure will inspire its clients and make them feel like royals.  The store design is impeccable and once again Dirand’s amazing Interior Design rests on pure architecture, symmetry, balance and neutral palette.  Immaculate architectural details as wooden parquet floors, ornate wall moldings, elaborate French door pediments are some of the exquisite decorating features in the Balmain store in Paris.

Joseph Dirand, A Paris apartment designed by Joseph Dirand

After posting the kitchen designed by Joseph Dirand yesterday, it’s a rigor to post the rest of this breath taking Paris apartment.  This apartment designed by him is situated in the widely popular neighborhood of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris and I would say that it also falls into the “new modern” category I spoke about yesterday where the design concept is still simple with “less is more” as the standard but, without sacrificing the warmth and provenance of the space.  And I’m sure that you would assume that such magnificent Interior Architectural features as stunning parquet floors found all throughout the house, extraordinary floor-to-ceiling French doors providing unbeatable amounts of light, and walls dressed with elegant ornate moldings, doesn’t need much to be enhanced further.  Unquestionably though Dirand went on and did his magic by adding wonderful and sculptural furniture, paired them with top notch art while keeping the color palette to the minimum.  The result is a perfect symphony of harmony and beauty to treat our eyes.  See more gorgeous Paris abodes here.

kelli wilde and laurent champeau design

You may have seen this amazing Parisian apartment featured in Elle Decor in the November issue.  If you saw the magazine you probably bought it just to see more of this amazing flat.  My husband who never buys design magazines bought it for me in his latest trip overseas.  The designers to praise behind this creation are Kelli Wilde and Laurent Champeau who previously worked for Tino Zervudachi.  Restoring a lot of the original ornamented walls and ceiling the designers reconfigured the layout for a better flow.  The mixture of classic furniture and modern art is a perfection of sorts.  Enjoy!
