Live Beautifully: 10 Tips On How To Style Your Bookcases.
There is nothing better than the feel of a real book. There is no kindle or electronic device that can be compared to a bookshelf full of books or to the sensory experience of holding a book in our hands. One of my favorite rooms in a home is the library because it’s cozy as well as stylish. Styling your bookcases can be tricky but has never been easier. Whether you want to use your bookshelves for storage or for displaying books, these ten tips will help you get there.
Add lighting.
Illuminate your bookshelves for a more inviting atmosphere. Lighting fixtures such as sconces can be installed from either the pilasters or overhead wood frame.
Hang art from the Pilasters.
I personally love hanging art from the bookshelves to add an artistic touch to the library or office. The artwork will also serve as a blocker to hide things you don’t want to be seen. Make sure to sue a non-abrasive picture hanging strip.
Display your collection.
Bookshelves are perfect to displaying a collection.
Add a bold paint color to the back wall.
Make an impact by painting the back wall of your bookcases of a different bolder color.
Add contrast with shape.
Books have simple and straight lines to them, so make sure to break that up by adding interest with sculptural objects. It could be something as simple as a potted plant, as long as it serves as a point of interest.
Color code your books.
Color coding your books for a more harmonious look is pretty. I personally prefer to store my books by subject since it’s more convenient and accessible. A different color-coding or coding bookcases is by displaying different objects of the same color throughout.
Add color with objects.
We’ve all seen the blue and white ceramics displayed in bookshelves. The same can be done with any other same color porcelain you own.
Display books horizontally.
Break up the monotony of all books placed in the same direction by displaying them vertically and horizontally.
Fill out the empty spaces.
Make sure not to leave big empty spaces that would look boring. Fill those empty areas of your shelves with memorabilia and objects. Anything from a small seashell to a framed picture will be great as long as it harmonizes with the rest of the objects in the bookshelves. It’s a good idea to take a step back, look at the shelves, and see what it’s missing, in terms of shape, size, or texture. The final look should complement the rest of the bookcase.
Integrate stylish storage boxes
Quite often, bookshelves serve a multi-purpose, such as office storage, t.v stand, etc. And one way to keep all the things you don’t want to be seen organized is by putting them inside decorative boxes.
